Just curious.... With bobcat hunting season approaching, how many members are going to try their luck at one this year? I'll be giving it at try. The lack of snow certainly makes scouting for sign tougher... :-\
-
I've never called a bobcat in my life, but I'll be out there making noise!!!
-
I'll be trying to charm one in as well.
-
;) ;) ;) Ole Goose may grace the woods for one this year ??? ??? ??? ??? Past couple of years the ice has kept me from chasing them... :o :o :o :o
-
I know what you mean Goose! Last year there were some nice spots I couldn't hunt. Remote forestry roads with no winter maintenance..... Snow was so deep, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get back out of there. No cell phone service either. Couldn't call for help if I got stuck. Hated to pass up on spots, but it's better than getting stranded.
-
I'm going. I've hunted hard the last 2 years with no luck. I called some of my cat spots last night for the last time till cat comes in. Managed one grey and one we couldn't Id when the downpour came in.
-
foxhound while you were bobcatless last year! You be a wise man!!!!
-
I have my permit... When one doesn't scout it's best to just hunt and trap coyotes.. I'd only have to travel about oh 30 min to get into a bobcat WMU.. However as luck would have it I talked to the biologist one time that was responsible for bobcat... I took him hunting... He said: "If you really want a Pa bobcat you need to hit the Northern Tier of Pa.. The More North you go the chances are better... So one needs to set their priorities.. What you need to do is find you a place somewhere? It probably in another state... That you don't have to worry about district or WMU or just a qty of 1 and hit that hard for a week...I know of such a place but it ain't in Pa.... A few of my friends on here know where i'm speaking of..

First year going out. Looking forward to it and looking for any advice as well.
-
;D ;D ;D any advice..Hump...take a gun along!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I will be out I have called 2 cats in this year so far.4 last year with in 1 week but I didn't have a permit but my cusin did and he got one.
-
Have had two come in in previous years, both out of season..was out calling for coyotes one night last year with fellow member and buddy of mine, Mike aka"32-20"...it came into shotgun range and just stared at us ..we were both able to get a great view of it through the scope as it stood there basking in the glow of the red light...Christmas eve morning I stopped out at a property I hunt and did a quick scout mission with a buddy, a gun and call..case we came across a rogue coyote..figured with the recent rains we might stumble across some good tracks..spotted these Bob tracks coming off a small game trail and onto the road..this is very near the location of the only other cat I've had come in a couple years back...needless to say, I'll be back out there trying my luck this season..

Can bobcats be hunted on sundays?
-
No they can not be hunted on Sunday's. Only coyote, fox and crows may be hunted on Sunday!
-
Ain't that a btch. Coyote and fox are considered predators which opens the door to Sunday hunting, guess bobcats don't make the cut as predators.
You can trap them 24-7 but not hunt them what gives. (no beef with trappers) Just a working guy who would like more time to hunt.
-
A lot of guys feel the same way 32-20.
-
It sure doesn't make much sense. I don't get the separate seasons either...... ??? ??? ???
-
Maybe that is something the ppha could try and get changed.
-
We are always looking for guys that can help i.e. Able to attend meetings and be a voice for the association
-
Everyone who feels that way needs to send a email to voice their opinions. I will send a email from the ppha as D-5 coordinator about this issue. But as Darin brought up we don't attend meetings. It's hard with everyone having families, work and also for me they are 3+ hours away. I think we need someone there but until one of us can make it or one of our members volunteers we have to email. Here is the address if anyone is interested pgccomments@pa.gov

Message sent to PGC, possibly if more people chime in maybe we can get Sunday open to hunt bobcats.
I might be pushing my luck here but why does the season end on Feb. 9th a Tuesday why not Feb. 13th a Saturday, not much time if you work 5-6 days a week.
-
Bigcat thanks for posting that link to the PGC. never new it existed.
-
32-20, Same reason they ended fall turkey in my area on a Friday, read the digest on dates or pay a fine I guess.
-
I sent in an email supporting Sunday bobcat hunting. Any others take a few minutes to do the same? ??
-
:D I just did ;D Only I suggested that it be open for all fur bearers :D I don't believe the number of individuals participating would greatly impact the resource by doing this. :) 8)

Sent again

I believe this is to give the hunters the same opportunity as the trappers. Hunting season is two days longer to make up for the two Sundays.
I am very much in favor of the Sunday hunting. I would really like to see them go back to a lottery drawing and give us the full season. I know everyone doesn't feel that way, but it was great having 20 or so weekends to hunt them and pick out a nice big cat and go after it. Pass and release the small ones knowing you have plenty of time to make it happen. I live in good cat territory, so I generally have no trouble getting a cat every year, but this short season really hurts you guys that live away from cat zones. Hunt them every few years and get a quality one.

It was the hunters voice that got this. The dog hunters did not want to have the same season as the trappers.
I have done both my entire life and support anything that benefits either one without negatively effecting the other.
-
Trappinjohn, thanks for the info on the split season. I was unaware of that fact.
-
Who do I send an email to about Sunday bobcats? With my work schedule it is really hard for me to make it to any type of meeting but I can send emails to anyone at anytime only takes a couple minutes.
-
wfo204, send it to pgccomments@pa.gov
-
Thanks I missed it in the post above thank you for reposting it.
-
Received a reply today said they would pass it on but also told me to contact my State rep. and Congressmen.
Guess even the PGC has to go through political channels to get things done.
Maybe if some of you silver tongue devils can spread the word on other forums maybe we can make things happen.
May not be the best place to start but its a start.
Keep the emails going their is a PGC meeting at the end of this month for setting the 2016-17 seasons and limits.
-
;) ;) OK everybody, the season is upon us :o :o everyone ready?? :) :) :) maps, calls, ammo, boots, camo clothes, gun, and most of all ??? ??? ??? ??? a positive attitude 8) 8) 8) 8) Good Luck to everyone as I will be hunting an area I've never hunted before :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ it will be an adventurous gun walk I'm sure. ;D ;D ;D
-
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!! The rain >:( is keeping me from going out at midnight so I'm gonna hit some spots tomorrow morning and put the light back on the gun for tomorrow night.
-
Good luck everybody. Like Goose, I'm hunting an area I've never hunted before. Lots of big rocks and a stream with many beaver dams.
-
Good luck to all.
I'm sleeping in, heading out in the afternoon and into the night.
-
I have been trapping so I didn't do any scouting what so ever for bobcat....So....I just might take the shotgun to hunt some Ruffed Grouse and while i'm hunting I will look for some bobcat sign... If I find anything then maybe I will get out there. Truly time to pull the traps Sunday that's for sure... I would have to travel about 45 minutes away to hunt a WMU that allows bobcat hunting..There is this certain area that have some rabbits in and maybe I can connect on a few...I'm actually going to start calling again and getting out there for coyotes and fox..
-
I saw someone driving a Bob Cat today! ;) :)
