Title: FINALLY!
Post by: Kyle5865 on September 21, 2015, 01:51:06 AM
Just the other night after about 2-3 years of learning and experimenting and practicing, I finally killed my first coyote. Not big at all but a coyote is a coyote and I am extremely happy. Hopefully more to come. I've never heard as many coyotes as I have so far this year. It's nuts. They are running everywhere and constantly howling. Gonna get out there and hopefully get some more but I have my own ideas of what calls to try off the foxpro, but what's everyone else's go to call when they are hearing the coyotes howling, yiping, and barking and also seeing them in broad daylight? Just curious to what everyone else has had luck with to what I am doing. I killed my coyote after 4 nights of constant calling at the same time. The 4th night I pulled in and exactly what I was hoping for, it was standing in the field already. I made it so curious it was already there waiting on me. Say coyotes arnt territorial and your crazy.

I hunt Coyote during daylight hours. Never killed one at night.
When Coyote barks or yips back at me, I bark or yip back at them. When they want to talk, then I talk back, for the most part.
Congratulations on your first Coyote.

Thats what I have been using also. Seems like I walk out my back door and they are howling or barking everywhere. Or I have people calling and texting me telling me they hear them. Just gonna have to get back out there and hopefully get some more. Heres another question for everyone. If people are seeing the coyotes in broad daylight running the fields, how do you go about that. I don't do much daylight hunting but I am going to start because they are seeing many during daylight hours. Mainly don't know what calls to use at what times.

Hunt them the same way.  Watch your movement!  Be very still

Great job Kyle!..if you were hooked before, look out...it only gets worse!!

Good advice there ^^^^^ This technique worked for my partner and I perfectly this past winter..and helped him connect on his first coyote..I just tried my best to "talk" back to it..the coyote started howling when we were settling into our set up..we knew he was close enough to where we didn't need to move..I answered accordingly...I used my FoxPro mostly and just a touch of a mouth call. I will say I tried not to over call..he responded every time except for the last exchange, he didnt respond to our last response to him he just went silent.. but he was spotted trucking in moments later..he ran in from a good 300 yds out..stuck out like a sore thumb on the barren snow..we suspect he came down off the ridges to the left and just a bit further behind where we first spotted him running in..
