Post by: Bigcat on July 27, 2015, 04:27:08 PM
We are looking for member feedback on what you would like to see happen/change with the Game Commission laws when it comes to predator hunting?  If we are going to represent you, our members, we need to know what you have to say!  Let us hear your thoughts and feelings!

Just wanted to give a update. Sunday hunting for all predators is being followed through by one of our members with the backing of the PPHA.
Bees brought up mentored youth being allowed to hunting/trap all predators. I sent a email to the game commission about this and got a a response that it would be brought to the boards attention. That was a few weeks ago. Today received another from the game commission.
"Thank you for your comments.  I will follow up and see if we can get this done.  We are revising the species that mentored hunters can hunt at our  next meeting."

Here's my opinions on this.
1. Fisher hunting is a must
2. We need to be able to hunt all predators on Sunday
3. If we are going to make a push for semi auto rifles please make a push for it across all areas of hunting as I feel just allowing it for predator hunting will hurt our sport more than it will help us. Too many people will go "predator" hunting for the sake of just being able to take their AR out. Please keep this in mind. I understand just about every state allows semi but they also allow it for all areas of hunting.
4. Can we please get the game commission to wholly be aware that hunting with a suppressor is legal as long as you have the proper paperwork. I run into way too many people that try and tell me that I can't or I'm gonna get arrested etc. the game commission has provided me with statements saying that it is legal but they will not actually make a real statement. Basically trying to keep it under wraps or something is my guess. I just know I'm gonna run into some wet behind the ears know it all game commission officer and waste my entire night giving the kid a lesson on laws and what's legal and not.

Interesting point there...Semi autos aren't at the top of my list but if it is pursued your logic makes sense..

Not a PA resident but have family back there that we visit time to time.  Could never understand the reasoning behind some of your game laws, no Sunday hunting except for certain critters, why not hunt them all or none, no semi-auto rifles, why, no suppressors(?), and the list goes on.  Just a few contrasting points from out here in the desert, semi-auto's allowed no limit on magazine capacity when I'm hunting on the border I have two thirty round mags in my pockets and one 30 round mag in the AR, suppressors allowed, hunting allowed 7 days a week.   Your guns laws also seem a bit odd, but that an entirely different ball of wax.

I would vote for Sunday hunting for all predators.

I only hunt crows & yotes - so I am already toting a gun on Sundays.

as far as semi's for hunting - a BIG NO (as in NEVER).

In my mind - one shot one kill - if you miss - the critter won.
No need to spray lead - which will happen - I see it at gun ranges which are regulated and posted heavily with signage (which is ignored by many AR users).

Last time I saw two young guys get pinched by a WCO for excess rounds in the gun (only allowed three shells).

I was going to warn them - instead I just watched and smiled as they received their "paperwork" from the WCO.

Sorry - not a fan of semis for hunting. NEVER will be.
