Title: Bobcat Season
Post by: Buckwheat on December 16, 2013, 08:59:05 AM
Who is all going this year. Trapping or Calling? This is already a very cold snowy winter, so hunting or trapping could be a challenge on this old body. :-)

I'll be calling.  I have a couple spots were cats are spotted frequently.

I'll be out calling. Found some good sign in deer season. Good luck to everyone.

I will be calling. In fact I called 4 in this season so far. A triple and then the very next stand a few miles away called in another one. Hopefully I can get one to respond to the call during season.

Will be calling and hope to break the course. The Bobcat is the only thing you can legally call in and kill in PA that I have yet to get. I keep records of all my stands and what ive called in at each....last 5 years ive called in 32 bobcats and none were during the season......6 so far this year

Calling... My first year with a Bobcat permit. Saw a lot of tracks last year, and like Bees, I've yet to bag a PA Bobcat.  Good luck everyone!

Considered trapping but with the distance I have to travel, it could get pricey to go and check them everyday, so I plan on getting out and doing some calling....

Hoping to get up north and do some calling at least one or two days.

Well my buddy and I finally remembered to get our permits before the deadline this year....LOL
So we'll be going out and trying some calling at some places where we hunt yotes.  We have had cats on cams in the past. Need to do some scouting though to see if they are still around. I'm excited to try to focus on hunting them. GOnna be hard to convince my buddies to sit on stand that long though...

This is why I would like to see it go back to the lottery drawing.
I have a fairly good cat population in my area.  I've caught plenty over the years and have no interest in taking a small one.  The trapping season kinda stinks.  No snow before season to key in on a big cat and it's over the holidays and muzzleloader season.

The hunting season is in a much better time period, but can be pretty tough going around here.

What I liked about the lottery, you had all year to find the cat you want.  I have passed up small cats calling and released several while I had a tag.  The other nice thing, I could get a guide license and help friends that didn't live in an open management unit when it worked good for them.

I guess if I was happy with killing any cat, it would be ok for me, but I think you guys that live in the south are really at a disadvantage.  JMO, I think they fixed something that wasn't broken
