Title: Carnivore 5 The most powerful Red led flashlight
Post by: Buckwheat on October 23, 2012, 05:12:46 PM
Carnivore 5 led flashlight
This is a new hunting light that I hand picked this summer for my wife to sell and it kicks butt.
I have tested and messed with this light for a little wile.
But I could not field test this light until the season started.

Well, as you can see from Saturdays night hunt it works as good as I thought it would.
There will be people that will think this flashlight is two much light to hunt with. As you can see it is not no matter what the Internet experts think.

For example; of the power of this Carnivore 5 light, I had set the best known lights in a camera stand at 60 yards from my archery target and took pictures with my cell phone. There is some more information on my web page.

This is the picture you ask for.
The light force 170 light has a smaller beam and shines farther. But not enough to get me excited. I am also not sure I might also have the 100 watt bulb in the light force. They came with a 75 watt bulb.

Seems fairly prices considering similar lights out there and you include shipping.  Looks to me like a great gun light but to short of a battery life for scanning.

Yea, the run time is not what a less powerful light has. I think what every hunter has to know what they need for run time and how well they want to see. If you are a hunter that stays on stand for 1/2 hour each stand you can only get 6 stands. But they will be great stands to set on because of the amount of light. If you hunt like me a hunter can get 12 stands or more stands. Me, a few extra 186500 batteries is not even something I care about. I have carried a nightforce that cost three times the price of the carnivore 5 light. Plus I still went through two or three extra $35 night force batteries. I even own two night force just so I had one for a back up. So when you say run time is two short, it all come down to what you need and how much money hunters are willing to pay to see better. Look at the coyote light that cost $429 and only 5 hours of run time on high. It is a good light and there will be people that will own two just to run all night and have a back up. That is $858 to hunt with. A few extra18650 batteries sounds like a good deal to me. :-)

I now what your saying Buckwheat. If your into longer shots or maybe your eyes aren't what they use to be you need all the brightness you can get.I have basically the same light from a different company that I believe discontinued the 5 led model and it diffentently blows away any single led light.

Hunters that want a light that shines far and one that covers a lot wider area is what this light is about. After I run this light all the other lights look like lights with small concentrated pencil size beams.

Have you seen any effect with the brightness on any critters?  I am alone in this one but I feel that on a few occassions my 250 Killlight on my gun has scared fox.  This may be a nice light for me because I just can't seem to pull the trigger on anything out past 100 yards at the very max.  I hunt in the burbs in many spots and I am so scared of ever shooting anyone's cat or dog.   So far...so good....even with some redish cats.  Maybe my eyes are just getting old and my glasses add up.  However, anything we can do to increase our certainty of our target is very worthwhile IMHO.

What type of 30mm mounts are available for the light?  I have a turret cap on my scope and need to clear it.  The standard mounts won't do it.

Well, I am not sure were to start with your problems or questions. For one thing not seeing animals clearly at just over 100 yards with the kill light and a scoped rifle is hard to say. You should be able to see clearly enough out to at lest 125 yards.  I would check your scope eye relief first. The next thing is if using a head light turn it off for the shot. It might be giving you some glare on your scope. When wearing glasses there are all kinds of things that may not help.
As far as having critters spook from the light you need to tell me more then you have. I have never seen fox spook from a light, it is how you operate a light that can spook fox.
What ever mount you are using now should work with this light. The light comes with a quick mount bracket.

Since Ernie brought CoyoteLight in to the conversation, we have a few things to say.  The description from Ernie is misleading.

Battery Life
CoyoteLight gets at least 5.5 hours of run-time on full power, and when dimmed to 25% power will get 48 hours of run-time.  Normal hunting time when the CoyoteLight is used for both scanning and shooting is around 30hrs.  CoyoteLight was designed to have plenty of battery life to hunt all night.  If you hunt 5.5 hours with the Carnivore, you would need 11 batteries.

Brightest LED Light?
You say the Carnivore is the brightest LED, but have you tested the CoyoteLight?  Why only post a picture at 60yds?  We have posted pictures at 250yds.  We realize not everyone will shoot that far, but it's our responsibility for safety as hunters to see the back drop.  In addition for close shots, CoyoteLight can dim down so there is not a chance of spooking the animal with an overly bright light.

Cost
You mentioned you use a Lightforce as a backup.  If you combine the cost of a Lightforce ($319.95) plus the Carnivore ($112), the multiple lights costs more than one CoyoteLight.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

When I mention the light force and light force as back up. That was when I use to use a night force. I carried one for back up because I never trysted just one light to hunt all night with. So the price for me to hunt with that was $319 + 319 + at least six $35 batteries for a total $210 in just batteres. So the cost when I hunted with the light cost me over $845 annd that does not include the two $50 chargers I purchased. So I can say I have over $950 in light force lights.

As you can see for me to hunt with your light I would spend $429 x two for a total of $850  because I never rely on just one ligh as you can see frim my information stated.
Other people that may not take night hunting as I do my just purchase one and be fine with that.

As you can see I did not speak down about your light, I would think it is a nice light.

I used the 60 yards target in my yard because it was easy for me to walk out and take a picture.

Your light may shine farther then the the carnivore 5 but I do not think yours puts@ out more light.

Please let me know if you have any question.

Thanks, I think you will knock some fox down with the light. I know  it works, we shot 16 fox the first weeken with the carnivore 5 and a fair amount were out pretty far and two of them were running shots. We only missed one fox, and Brian blamed me. He said I made him nervous and he took a bad shot. :-)

The never word is a scary word to some people. So you can now look on the brite side,  you will never have to say never again.
Me however, I still enjoy saying the word never every day. :-) even though never is all relative to something.
