Why would you boil poison type of sumac? The stag horn type is not a poison type of sumac

Stag Horn Sumac like you said is not poison. This would be the sumac with the brown clusters. People make a tea out of the brown clusters.

Poison Sumac will have white berries! Now that is poison!

Are you using the stag horn for a drink or a dye for your traps?

I always use black walnuts to dye my traps!

Thank you both. I am going to try them on traps this yr. Walnuts are very scarce around here this yr. We never used sumac so we might give it a try. I did not want boil the poisonous kind but I was"t sure if the others had a poisonous fumes.

I have used sumac before and did a decent job. I would recommend sticking them in a pair of pantyhose.

Sumac tea is actually very good. You can take the red pods and soak them in cool water for a few hrs and it makes a very good almost lemonade flavored drink. Very healthy to...loaded with vitamins.
