Title: Rimfire for coyote?
Post by: nontypical14 on March 14, 2012, 12:11:54 PM
Will a Remington 591m 5mm be enough for coyotes?  I would love to use one of my centerfire rifles but am limited in Allegheny county.

Thanks in advance.

Ok.  That's what I was thinking after reading a comparison of the rimfires.

Here is the link.  http://www.chuckhawks.com/magnum_rimfire_comparison.htm (http://www.chuckhawks.com/magnum_rimfire_comparison.htm)

Do head shots....I lost a coyote once with a .22 and that was a head shot. Had the coyote at 20 yards and it spooked...stopped it at 40 and took a shot at its forehead. The coyote dropped straight down kicked around, then jumped up and ran off...not sure what went wrong but I quit using the 22.

22 mag or 22 long?I had some issues with the 17hmr and ballistic tips blowing up before penetrating but went to a bigger bullet and hollow points and its been working fine.Although it will do the job a rimfire for coyotes is pushing the limits.

That's why I was wondering about the 5mm.  But in Allegheny County its either rimfire or shotgun with buck shot.
