Title: coyote got away

is it rare for a coyote to get out of a leg hold trap ?i set a dirt hole set last night and i checked it at first light and trap was sprung  coyote tracks in snow and ground was all tore up ! he got his leg out of trap. ??? any suggestions ? i guess it may have caught him low on leg ?

What were you using for an attractant?

ok i will do that. thank u very much ! i m still seeing fresh tracks where im trapping. maybe more pan tension will do the trick ! thanks again all. !
