While I was archery hunting in the rain from Sat to Tues I was wondering if you have traps out with scent do you refresh them every night or will the scent remain and you just check them...thanks ED

If it's not a heavy rain, I'll give it a day or three.
It all depends on the type of lure and the target animal.

I freshen them up after a good rain. I made the mistake of pulling traps if rain was coming. I was young and dumb. Who knows how much fur I missed doing that. The coons realy move before a storm.

I try to stay away from set as long as possible. Rain gives the set a whole new look.
If trap is exposed, I re-do set.
But good lure or bait will last awhile.
Most folks over do lure and bait.
Winter of '95/'96 we have snow, snow and more snow. Barns and building roofs were caving in.
I was still eeking out a line and worked hard for fur and getting some good fur.
By the end of the season, I could not get to one of my sets because of 4' snow drift covering the set.
This was close to home and on my way to and from work. So I looked every darn day. Finally after 6 weeks the snow was slowly disappearing. Friday evening I thought enough snow was melted to take a looksee. The next day I drove up to the set to pull trap and an adult Red Fox was caught that night! I released him unharmed, but experinced the value of a good lure.

You aremt trapping now are you? :-\

No, not yet. It's going to be my first time and the question just popped into my head while sitting in the rain. I'm going to try to trap a bobcat after deer season and I trying to get it right before hand.....ED
