What do they taste like? I know fresh dandelions stems are bitter... I learned that real fast just from being a kid.
-
my wife thinks they taste kind of like fried caulifower with just a little bitter taste. my 5 and 2 year old love them.
-
Looks good, never tried fried.
Wife made fresh Dandelion with homemade hot dressing twice the past two weeks. Love it.

Dumb question but I gotta know. Do you just cut the head off and fry them in vegetable oil? How do you know when they are done? Is there a time limit? Any spices before or after frying? Thanks for asking. My kids will get a kick out of doing this.

i have wanted to try dandelion wine but haven't made it yet. popular drink with most of the folks of Appalachia.
-
My grandmother used to make a salad out of them with bacon and vinegar and oil.
-
1/4 cup flour
3/4 cup corn starch
salt
pepper
enough water or beer to thin it out about 1 cup. you want it thin not like pancake batter.

When I was a kid my grandparents used to use dandelions in salads. They also used to fry up a weed we used to call elephant ears.

I also grew up with the dandilion salad with the hot vinegar and bacon dressing. This is made with just the greens of the plant before they start to bud a stem. If you wait till they bud they are to bitter.. I have never heard of beer battering the flowers though.. I will have to try this also..I may try it with the hot bacon and vinegar dressing as a dipping sauce..
