This will be the best shot at the highest population of Pennsylvania Bobcat that we may ever experience.
I feel Pa. 'cat numbers will decrease in the near future.
My best to everyone, give it your best shot.

That is definitely true, it will never get better then this year to get a cat I think also. We all most did them in once in the past. Now with all the information on how to get them today it is almost overwhelming compared to the past. It will be interesting to see were it goes to say the least in the next few years. Fur prices might drive it harder then people might be figuring just for starters. Heck a family of 4 can catch 4 bobcats not counting friends if the price goes good.

Can we really wipe out the cats?
-
No, the season would get closed. But you can get the numbers down quick in some areas.

Would like to see the stats after the season is over... Namely if they could break the harvest down by hunting with dogs, calling, and trapping. That might tell a story and be good sound data to use for future bobcat seasons. Good thing is that the season has a window on it..the window of it occurring between the holiday season will help.. Also should we get bad trapping weather..Not all trappers know how to trap in bad weather conditions...To much snow on the ground and the dogs will cut their paws up on the crusty snow... However as it stands now.. Looks like the weather not going to be that bad of a impact this time around.. At least for the first week or the 10 day forecast.. People go by the game laws and not get greedy things should work out...Hope all that kill more then the season limit get caught and pay high fines.!!!!!!!

prices on cat fur is low. bout the same as a eastern coyote. they are just not as nice as the spotted ones out west. as far as lowering the pop. I can see it. but not from callers perspective. The trappers and hounders would have a better bet at lowering the pop then all the new callers that want a cat all of a sudden.

BB, was setting traps Saturday. Lots of trapper activity on Union/Centre county line.
I know of 10 trappers work'n the same mountain road!! Ten, that I know of!!
Even a group of Coyote hound hunters up there Friday & Saturday.
Local buyer is quoting $40's on 'cats...give or take.
Two or three years ago, a Bradford county guy sold a 'cat for $65 at local fur acution. 'cats should bring desent money this year.
I did fine that many trappers (no or little experience with winter trap'n conditions) are having a hard time dealing with frozen ground.

Wonder how many are just pinching toes?? >:(

There will be some 'one hit wonders' by the end of this season.
By next year, they will be experts. ;D
I was thinking about past articles I have read...(and came up with some of my own)...
Backwoods Bobcat
Cattyninetail 'Cats
Beaver Pond Bobcats
Backwater Bobcats
Riverbottom Bobcat
Cornfield 'Cats
Beaver Dam Bobcats
Bench Run'n Bobcats
Call'n all 'Cats
Beagle Club Bobcats
Cliff Climb'n 'Cats
can you add any new titles for articles?
I talked with a few experienced trappers yesterday/last evening and they already caught Bobcat on 1st or 2nd check.
One fella caught 1 Sunday and 1 Monday on a Beagle Club in Juniata or Mifflin county.
'cats love Rabbits. If you live in 'cat country, try gaining permission at your local Beagle Club. It's the place to be.
My best to all you 'Cat folks.

it's amazing isn't it hern? I bought a predator hunting mag the other day and read it. Mostly the same old regurgitated crap you can read just about anywhere. Only article I liked was the one dave kaprocki did on the friendships that are gained while hunting. Very good article and I always look forward to his words.

What mag was the article in? I love to read Dave Kaprocki's fox hunting book and PX articles but I never got my last PX magazine or holiday one.
