well i finally got my first yote today!!!!
i went out to this farm i just got permission to hunt a little while ago..the owner of this farm was telling me that he had some yotes on the property along with some ground hogs too that he wanted taken care of.....so i did some scouting around for any signs of yotes and i found some actually i found alot of signs....so i was thinking that there was a den on the poperty some where and there is cause i saw 4 pups in one of the fields and before i could get set up to shoot they spotted me and took off...so i waited a few days well actually it was a week or so cause it started raining for the next several days along with some very wind days till a front past by yesterday and cooled things down into the 70's for highs and mid 40's for lows....so i went out there this afternoon around 4 pm....set up my stand in a lower part of a field...i set my foxpro caller out along with my mojo decoy went back to where i was sitting and tried to start my caller with a baby rabbit distress but nothing was happening..so i had to go see what was wrong with my caller...well you got to turn it on and put the antenna up for it to work...with that fixed i snuck back to where i was sitting....i took a few mins to get settled back in before i started calling...it wasn't 10 mins or so when i was caught looking the wrong was again....i thought that the yote would come out of the thick brush at the middle edge of the field but that was wrong the yote came out at the top of the field about 150 yards away....this yote was looking dead at my decoy with me pionting the wrong direction some.....so as i repositioned my gun and shooting sticks for the shot...my shooting sticks decided to come apart cause one end was stuck in the ground....as i tried to get them back together the yote spotted me....luckly the shooting sticks clicked back together and the yote stopped to look at my decoy one more time and gave me the time i need to shoot her....35 lbs female...now all i have to do is take care of her pups at a later date....now if someone can tell me how to post pics i have a couple to post....good hunting

thanks guys for the support and for all the stuff i picked up from reading everyone's posts on what works and how to set up.....
hey foxpro51 i thought long and hard on if i should go after these yotes because i was well informed on that there was pups 4 to be exact but the owner of the property asked if i would take care of this for him.....this family of yotes had cleaned out his chickens and domestic rabbits also...he had informed me that this was a on going problem for the last couple of years.....i would have preferred to wait till fall or later to collect the pelts but the yotes where starting to come around the house with no fear of the owner.....yes i plan on going out there again very soon to take the pups also so they wont suffer....it was a question of weather to take them now or wait...but the need was to do it now before anymore loss to the property owner happened....so if i offended you with taking this yote i'm sorry...but this situation need taken care of and still does till the number of yotes on this property is lowered some....i cant say that i didn't enjoy it cause i did but i also know that i have to finish what i started in a timely manner too...this is a lesson that i learned by taking this yote and one everyone needs to understand....i have been chasing yotes around for the last 7 or 8 years now and have been learning as much as i can in order to get one....so when i shot my yote i was well aware of the ramifications of what i did and on what has yet to be done....so everyone good hunting i hope everyone gets a yote or 2.....oz

There is a time when you have to kill coyotes even when they have pups.
April....Women called us...Coyotes were killing wild turkeys...Then they started showing up at the womens house.. Small ones ran away when women came out with a broom to scare them off.. the big one the Alpha male...Started Growling at the women when she came out of the house..
women also notice that the coyote would climb the stairs and went up on to her elevated deck...She's watching TV...Coyote climbs the steps. here she sees the coyote passing her large window while she is watching the tube...It goes up the steps and who knows what it was after on her elevated deck. By the way Brother Tom and I got that Alpha Male in Mid Spring by calling...
Smaller coyotes just cleared the area after that..

Uncle Buck,
Just curious, How many coyotes have you bagged? I read where you call in bunches, but never read how many.
-
Hunt hard, shoot straight, and appologize to nobody.

Ah win a few lose a few. Are you a paying member of PPHA? I have hunted with quite a few members of PPHA. So they have been there when the coyotes, and coon, and red fox and gray fox have come into the calls...So we hunt hard, shoot straight, and don't apologize to nobody..
-
Nice going oz. If I was presented with the same situation I would have done the same thing. Shoot straight and apologize to no one.

You dodged the question of how many have you killed. I just find it strange that someone with so much advice to give on the subject has never killed one.
It is well documented here that I am not currently a member and why. I too have hunted with current and past members, not sure what this has to do with you not killing any coyotes. Are you trying to say the ppha members keep you off the scoreboard?
-
Furbug,
He has not saying he has never killed one nor is he saying that he has killed one. He will say on the board how many he has called both fox and coyote but he never says how many he has killed. He has his reasons. I have hunted with UB several times and have always had opportunities, I use his methods for both fox and coyotes and kill plenty of both. I have also gotten away from posting numbers on the board for the same reasons UB doesn't. So pressure the guy all you want but if you ever want to put your money up on a friendly weekend two man hunt, i will take UB and we will see how much fur we can put in the back of the truck in a weekend.

Are you his mouth? ::) Do you read his mind? ::) Do you talk to lurkers like boot mud? ;D
Scott, I really don't care how many he calls in, how many he kills, or what his reasons are for being ashamed of it. I just think he should answer for himself and be up front and stand up to the people he is giving advice to. You mentioned you kill plenty of coyote and also are free with the advice, how many is plenty for you? I'm not looking to pressure Buck, but if he feels pressured by my question, it is because of the situation he has created.
I will take you up on a 2 man team weekend of coyote hunting if it is you and Buck, both teams hunt in unfamiliar and the same territory, we make personal contact Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and the prize is worthwhile. Let me know as I'm sure you speak for Buck too.
"but if you ever want to put your money up" How much $$ are you looking to risk? Make it worth my effort.
-
Bucks in the south east, I am in the east almost mid, how about somewhere in the central northern tier. I will match whatever you want and if UB doesn't want to hunt with me I will do it myself.
Check in daily
temp of animal has to be at least 65
and inspection by a third party.
Count me in.
-
I'm beginning to think you are uncle buck. You speak for him and represent him. You hunt with him but want to hunt alone on a bet. You requested a 2 man team hunt/bet including him. Has anyone ever seen both of you at the same time? ::)
-
lol, i put my correct name on the board, don't use a screen name or hide my identity like some people. I didn't want to speak for UB that is why i said i would hunt myself if need be. sounds like your already backing out.
-
I don't have to prove anything to anyone.
-
not even to Buck Poision?????? I mean furbug ;D
-
Now see this is a good learning experience... This is how you need to yank a coyote chain to get them upset and make them put their guard down. You all do this to a coyote....Think of them not as a dumb stray dog but a canine smarter then a Lab...Yank that coyotes chain just like people try to yank a humans chain and you will call in the smartest coyotes....
-
Hey Buck, I'm not trying to yank your chain. Sorry you feel that way. I'll ask you questions you're more comfy with in the future.
-
I don't have to prove anything to anyone.
No you don't.
-
hey furbug and everyone else i posted my first kill of a yote....it was that a first....anything after that is gonna between me and my maker....it is a fool hardy man who brags about all that he has accomplished...it is a morally modest man that is willing to impart his knowledge to those that are willing to listen...so uncle buck and who ever else has anything to make for a productive hunt i'm all ears or should i say eyes......so with that said good hunting everyone oz....
-
Oz, nice job on the coyote. I think the more you can learn here is less time it takes you to become successfull on a more frequent basis. Now you are hooked you have the first one under your belt. You will find sometimes the outer edges of fields produce more coyotes then walking into them. Setup up high in cross winds, where funnels meet fields. And remember different areas require different setups. I have killed many on farm roads, gas lines, etc.
Where do you see most rabbits while driving? "the back roads". Also target good deer and turkey population areas. And last but not least outskirts of big cities.
During deer season, and immediately after deer season target areas close to towns, use a shotgun and dim that light. Also try to be scent free as possible, you cannot, and will not fool a coyotes nose, but if you don't try to keep the human scent down, and use the wind you will not bag as many.
