Title: Mosquito Creek Hunt
Post by: uncle buck on February 09, 2010, 07:10:50 PM
I know some like to hunt in this while other frown on it....Me I like it because it gives me a chance to hunt with my son, or brother, or nephew.
We do have a good time hunting together.. Most times the weather is so bad and the winds are so high that harvesting one would be near impossible... LOL

I really like the hunt. If you shoot something you will get a couple $'s for the effort. Each year a 100plus yotes are taken out the fawn munching pool.Maybe more if the females are pregnant. Talk to guys get some tips. By the way my regisration is number 1321. Uncle Buck what is your number?

My brothers and I were lucky enough to get one last year for the Mosquito Creek Hunt.

If anyone is interested there are a few other clubs that have a hunt the same weekend that you can turn the same yote into each one of them. Not sure if these clubs are overlaping their hunts again this year but they all did last year. Sigel Sportsman's Club, St. Marys Sportsman's Club, Old Town Sportsman's Club (near Clearfield?), and Milroy Fire Company. I know Sigel and St. Marys are doing hunts this year. Does anyone know if the others are that weekend or if there are any other hunts in the state that weekend?

Any results from this hunt? With all this snow I would think the kill would be low.

What an outstanding hunt we had this weekend... We hunted all over the South Central Pa Region. We made only 10 stands for the entire weekend (we stay long and travel far in between)  and called in 5 coyotes.

Now the statistics:

THE COYOTES  5
TOM, ERIC, & JIM      0

Safety issues plagued even firing at 2 of the 5. House right behind the coyotes..  Ah they even sat down but the shooters did the right thing and did not fire.

Another call in was in direct line with all of us and it was there he is and then there he ain't.  Just that simple real fast it was over..

Wind shift from West to North West caused the coyotes to come right into the caller instead of circling and coming in above the two shooters.
One of those thing.  Caller had a rifle instead of a shotgun.  Determination had to be made of what the in comings were at first.. When  it was determine that it was coyotes not deer. The two startled coyotes and also startled caller resulted in a  quick shot made at two coyotes heading out at 50 MPH to the next county.

We actually saw a few fox too but we were coyote hunting...

All and all we had an outstanding time.  had some good laughs, ribbing of course too.

One women came up to us while we took a coffee  break and wanted to know just why we were all dressed alike?  She asked if we worked for one of the ski places? , You know making snow for them since we all had white Cableas coverall that were the same exact style..

It truly turned out  to be an outstanding Mosquito Creek hunt.  One that the three of us will remember for a long time..
Had the snow not been so deep and crusty we all might have been up at Mosquito Creek right now performing check-in..
We had to set up best we could  due to the still deep and crusty snow.  Now That Was A Good Time In Penn's Woods!
