The other night I was out and heard some coyotes. It started out as a series of about 4 high pitched short howls, never heard any like this. They were answered from a different location by yips and barks, never any howls.I'm thinking their thinking about getting together. What do you guys think it was?

i'm not certain...i will ask around for ya if nobody chimes in.

Probably Just regular unalarming coyote talk with the pack. Everyone just reporting in...
Ah now that would have been the time to play with their brain and make them think another coyote was on their turf... A simple Howl could have brought them in for a look see...

i would say they were checking their borders, good time to call inbetween where the 2 groups were

Group yip howl. I have heard many variations of this. More than likely a family unit getting together for the night. JMO.

I never heard an estrous chirp in the woods but have heard others do this sound on a mouth call. I'm pretty sure thats not what you heard.
