It would be interesting to see who started club? Who was the orginal officers? What was there first event. Dates it was started etc. Thanks
-
THanks i think that will be a positive thread.
-
I am in the process of trying to find out who the founding fathers were earl. I have contacted one of the orginal guys that started it and am waiting to hear back from him. ;)
-
I think it was Daniel Boone. LOL He always wore a coon skin cap.
-
Good question foxpro 51 I was wondering the same thing.

Ben Smyser has been asking me questions about when the PPHA Club started. I was holding off telling him when and were until I had all the information possible. Bob and I each have more information in or old computers stored away and are unwilling to try and start up again. So this is as good as it my ever get.
Well there was a meeting at the Norristown library in the early part of the year in 2002
This meeting was the first get together face to face for the club and we talk if there was possibly enough interest to start a club. There was Scott Latshaw, Bob Bopeck, Tim Tipton, Ernest Wilson, and at lest one other fellow was there, neither Bob nor I can remember his name. Maybe he will read this and we can confirm who he was. This meeting went ok and it was decided there was enough interest to have another meeting. At this next meeting people offered to hold positions and keep minutes. Later I became the first chairman of the political committee and we started changing laws for the betterment of our sport. The first one was no florescent orange. PPHA members and there officers worked hard for the first change especially since it was a new path by any of us. I hope this information helps, if not sorry there will be no more unless someday Bob or I open are old computers, but don’t hold your breath.

First official meeting minutes
On the afternoon of 7/14/02, the first formal meeting of the Pennsylvania Predator Hunters Association took place. A good turnout of die-hard predator hunters was recorded. Orders of business were as follows:
Election of officers to a two-year term;
President/Treasurer- Bob Popek
Vice President- Scott Latshaw
Secretary/Club Spokesman- Tim Tipton
An events planning committee was established with the following members being chosen to be involved; Scott Latshaw (Chairman), Ernie Wilson, Jim Monko and Bruce Althouse.
The following items were assigned to the committee for action;
1. A membership drive and cookout for August (possibly one for the eastern part of the state as well as one for the western part of the state)
2. The possibility of swap hunts between districts.
3. Presentations for Sportsmen’s clubs youth day events throughout the state.
4. The possibility of raffles with possible prizes such as guns, calls and predator hunting trips.
Other matters discussed were:
The setting of membership dues. The membership term is to run September to September, with yearly dues as follows:
Adult membership with a year’s subscription of Predator Extreme Magazine ($14.95 value) -$25.00;
Adult membership without magazine-$20.00,
Youth membership, Ages 12-17 (With adult membership, No voting Privileges)-$10.00
The setting up of nonprofit status for the club.
Liability insurance for the club.
Web page set up and maintenance, costs involved as well as other options.
The set up of a permanent mailing address.
The start up of a checking account for the club.
Interaction and responsibilities between officers and membership.
The need to publicize the club and encourage membership growth.
The need to introduce ourselves to other sportsmen’s clubs and develop strong political representation for our group to the state.

thank you mr wilson. :)
-
Interesting,Thank you for sharing and helping to start this madness.
-
Ernie...thank you...thats some neat stuff

Well if is was not for Bigben bugging me this may never have been printed. So do not forget to thank BigBen for asking me a month or so ago for this information.
As you can see Jim aka Unclebuck and I are the only charter members left. Bob still keeps fond memory's of some of the good stuff he was involved with though. There were two other guys Russ Felman and Brad Hummel that helped a lot in the earlier times in this club. Tom Monko as president would be about as far back as most of the newer guys can remember in this club I would bet. I can remember when Mike Dillon was one of only two members in his district. Bob asked him if he would put flyiers in his calls he sold in Pa. so we could get some advertising. Mike stood in a booth a cross from the PPHA booth at a trappers convention selling his calls in a old horse barn. He has been a PPHA member from the first time he was ask if he would join. So he might be one of the longest member in the club. Just thought you guys might like to hear a little more.

I'm not at my home computer right now, so this is off the top of my head without me digging thru my old papers and check book register for accruate dates.
First off I'm almost 100% positive it was the Tredyferein (sp?) Township Library in King of Prussia, not the Norristown Library. Second there was more than one other member there because both me and my brother were there also. I actually thought Bob P. organized the first PPHA get together out at the State park near Harrisburg before we even had that first meeting at the library in King of Prussia?
The very first actual guy who came up with the idea for the PPHA was a guy who I believe went by the name "Shorty" on Predator Masters. He held a hunt or two up around the Pocono area, but after that nothing materialized. That's when Bob Popeck picked up the reins and ran with it and got the club up and running.
"Tracker" (Aaron S.) has pictures of Bob P. and us ( the first charter members) at the first hunt we ever held up at his place in Pike county. This hunt was put together at the second or third meeting we held at the Library.
If I get a chance to dig up some more info, I will. My home computer crashed so it is not real conveniet to get on the Net right now.

As you can see Jim aka Unclebuck and I are the only charter members left
Oh really? Ernie are you losing your mind or just conveiently forgetting things? (My membership did run out in June, two months ago but I fully attend to re-up my dues within the next couple of weeks. Been a member since day one!)
Mike stood in a booth a cross from the PPHA booth at a trappers convention selling his calls in a old horse barn
Oh yea, the Trappers convention at the Port Royal Fair Grounds. You talking about that one? The one where me and my brother also hung out at the booth for a few hours also back then.

Mike you may have pictures before the club was formed or between the narristown meeting and the election meeting. Can you show me meeting minutes that say other wise. I went through this with you before if you remember. But the first meeting was at narristown library and you were not there so how would you know other wise. The information listed is the actual copie of the first meeting minutes. Hard to change that information.
-
Mike before you lay an egg,
So he might be one of the longest member in the club.
I never said he was just possible. but now that you dropped out he might be.
Ernie
-
WOW, thanks for the info that's interesting. Turn out to be a pretty good club.
-
Ernie, I do not have the pictures Aaron does. The club was definitly formed then. We organized it at one of the meetings at the Library. He has posted the pics before on one of the hunting sites. The hunt was in January or February. The PPHA get together out around Harrisburgh was In September prior to that January or February.
Sorry I do not ever remember disscussing any of this with you before. You must be thinking of someone else. Not trying to argue with you either, just trying to jar your memory.

Mike
I am not saying you guys did not talk about it and even think you started it. All I am saying is I have the written facts. I can not change the notified meeting we had at Norristown or the first meeting minutes and elections.
Ernie
-
Ernie, you are getting me cornfused now. I am in NO way saying we started the club.I give Bob P. all the credit for starting the club and soley to him and no one else. Me personally, I consider Bob P. the Grandfather of the club. and a good man. If you had a meeting at the Norristown Library, then you had a meeting there, so be it. I ment the Hunt was organized at the meeting not the actual PPHA Club.
But the club was formed and we were all members when we had the hunt up at Aaron's place in Pike county. Bob P. was there with us. Sorry you didn't make it.

I remember this question being asked on Huntingpa.. Aron, Tracker came back with all kinds of info. Even talked about Shorty trying to start the club..However back then it was more for $ instead of preserving predator calling or enhancing it. So it stalled and fell through. Then Bob Popeck took the bull by the horns. I do remember that a meeting was held at a Library in SEPA. I did not attend. .Then we all met near Indiantown Gap At the Farmers Wife Resturant... Um I had Blackberry Pie that night. That is when Popeck became president like Ernie said...That would be the first Time I met Buchweat (Ernie) AKA Buckwheat now. I actually gave the first seminar at our Picnic at Indiantown Gap that September.
I guess it's how you all look at it...Was it Shorty maybe a year farther back or the realistic true PPHA started by Popeck taking the bull by the horns...
-
Well for all those from the inception to present...thank you for your hard work....now lets keep it going

When I can find time, I will try to dig up some old photo's. I also have a album of some club functions that should rightfully go to the club.
-
Sam that would be great...would be a nice article/photos for a newsletter if we can get one up and going again.
-
WOW, thanks for the info that's interesting. Turn out to be a pretty good club.
lol...and we argue...its been happening from the start...
-
Shorty started the PPHC then Bob P. took over and it became the PPHA.

Good picture. Are they all still members?

Wow Tracker!!!!!Temp Minus -1.1. This was at your camp.
I remember hunting on top of Red Rock Mountain on another hunt... The temps was so cold my JIMMY would not open with the keyless car key....I had to use the old manual key to open the doors...
Also the hunt at Herder Springs.......Now that was a near blizzard....Dreamcatcher and I got out as others and give it the good ole PPHA try..
Also again at another hunt on Red Rock Mtn...I did not attend...The weathe got so bad that the ranger visited the cabin and told everyone that it be best if they left before the bad weather hit...
Just kind of refreshing memories....Yes we did have hunts and seminars and gatherings in years gone by. Seems like quite of few of us attended them too..
the Herder Springs was a big turn out. Seminar at Harrisburg Hunters and Anglers sponsored by the PPHA...Near 100 + people showed for that event....Then Port Matilda too...Randy Anderson.....
Many met with the head of PGC Pa Law Enforcement at Silk City Diner in Denver Pa too....That is when we start change the PGC. We all met with the head of Law Enforcement for the PGC and we found out this guy really wanted to work with us not hurt us.
I still remember Larry....Hodgen giving the waitress kind words as she served us...
-
Tracker...how about this one from last year......yep that says -10.7 I know when Tim n I were over at my camp it was -25 and talk about hurting ;D

Good picture. Are they all still members?
I don't know....... I walked away from the PPHA and this message board about a year ago (i think). I got sick of all the backstabbing, whining, crying, finger pointing, internet "toughguys" (some even threaten to sue when something doesn't go there way), but mostly because people run there mouths on how 'this and that' should be done but don't or won't step up and do ANYTHING.
-
tracker earl has signed alot of members in one years time.
like yourself we want more than 5 members in a hunt..doesnt mean 200,,but enough for some fun and competition.
if your not giving the members anything why continue to take there money.
make the club a free membership.
hunt just for the fun of it.
in 2 years there will be 20 members or less i would bet.
-
I'll take that be! ;)
-
The looser never posts on this board again! Deal? ;)
-
Who is the looser muddboot?
-
???
The looser is the one who looses the bet.
-
Intelligent people don't gamble.
-
Is Tim teaching you guys how to spell the word-LOOSER/LOSER? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I though it might be a blocked word on here. :-*
-
Yeah Uncle Buck we used to have fun....good times. What the heck happened??
Shawn, Yeah it was pretty cold last year too. ;D
You guys should have been plenty warm enough over your place with all that shoveling. :P

No BS meeting minutes back then just real predator hunters getting together and doing what they loved, that's what the club was started for.
