Title: COYOTES
Post by: DAVID1 on May 07, 2009, 12:58:03 PM
HEY GUYS,
I am in Altoona PA for those who didnt know. I have been hunting them for about 2-1/2 months or so on/off due to disability and kids/wife lol. I have decent gear. I pay close attention to my scent. I hunt PA GAMELANDS, AND SOME FRIENDS LAND. I hunt alone and with a partener sometimes.

My questions are. ???

Im not sure where there are definelty dogs. The Land I have access to either the public , and domestic dogs sometimes come. The Wind is the other thing how can I play the wind if I do not know what way they come . I understand the wind when deer hunting. Now when out and trying to set up a stand how do I do it. I know its hard to explain but Im confused  . Please I will Not give up I love hunting . I need some tips or an experienced hunter show me on a set.  Please help  ??? !!! lol

well one thing for sure even when out hunting check out the area scout around if you dont see signs of coyotes its hard to say their in there. if you hunt by yourself try keeping the wind at your cheek away from where they may come from like maybe at the distance you can see farther you be a good try. most of the time a coyote will circle downd wind of you and try to catch your sent and the wind to your cheek helps. with a partner though one guy can go up wind farther past you and the other can go downwnd to try and head off their scent

Ok thanks,
where do you live? I would really like to "watch" someone else hunt , I  want to be able to see what I may be doing wrong. The big thing is I need to find the dogs, and some better land would be nice.

David, do you belong to a gun club?  If so, try talking to some of the members to if they know of any farmers that may be having trouble with coyotes.  Also, try knocking on doors.  I recently within the last few weeks have gotten permission to coyotes on a property just by knocking on the door.

Good Luck

beaver co. and it is best to start beatin down doors IMO its part of scouting and thats something that must be done if you uptain private property to hunt then scout it and then find what your looking for your golden!! also it hels to find where to find property you want to hunt. try google earth and type in your area you would like to hunt sould find some REALLY nice places to try out for sure!
