Today, I found 3 popping up at the back of our property. The rain the other night got 'em started around here.
After the rain this coming Tuesday, should be prime time in Snyder County.
Any one finding Morels yet?
-
Haven't been out yet but i will head out tomorrow to look in my spot.
-
Went out yesterday for a few minutes and did not see any but I did see two other mushroom hunters. Seems like you got everyone all fired up Hern.

Wife and I found 5 more popping up. We need more rain...
Lookn4rattlers, when do you start hunting rattlers?
Reason I ask, nephew's friend was bit by a dry Copperhead last weekend. Union County.
-
I checked my area this morning and nothing yet. Had heavy rain early this morning, that might help.
-

June 11th is the official start day but the snake are in full emergence now. Great time to look at snakes since you can not legally disturb them yet.
Lucky for him it was a dry bite. Never heard of a dry snake. Someone should take it some water. ;D ;D ;D
-
;D ;D ;D and the intelligence spills out.. :P :P :P :P his cup runith over :-X :-X :-X :-X
-
:) CEO spotted a poisonous Ribbon Snake Rattler (very rare,indeed) yesterday while taking pictures of wild violets along the river. I should lease her for the season, she can find snakes like a beagle finds rabbits ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D It was a man killer as she vacated the area for the safety of the car and left me to deal with the serpent on my own :o OMG it had a jaw spread of about a 1/4 inch, could have swallowed me whole.....not to mention the venom ::) ::) ::) ::).......... 8) OH and no Morels here yet ,I guess to dry...
-
I hope you got lucky for being so brave and saving the damsel in distress. If guys your age are still interested in that kind of stuff? :o
I say we all pile into the short bus and pay a visit to Hern this weekend, Buckwheat is driving. Goose can distract him over a cup of tea and lack of trapping stories and Jasper and I can borrow his morels and leeks. ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;) ;) Always Lookn4afreeride ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
My Perry County Pops taught me that. :D :D
-
;) ;) ;) Glad you picked up on some lessons taught ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
Lookn4'nakes, I never heard of a dry bite either. Must of just came out from denning?
Jaspr1, my wife can spot a snake before me, also.
When ask, 'what was it? A Gardner Snake?'
She always says, 'it looked like a CopperheadedBlackMombaRattler!!
-
Dry bites happen more than you think. I have heard of them. I was just teasing you about a dry snake. Snakes have venom 24/7 even just emerging from the den. They don't always push it when they bite out of fear or aggression. They do however always push venom when they strike prey for hunting.

OK, back to Morels...
Been watch 'em grow out back.
Time to pick a few today...

I guess I need more edumacation. :( :( Hern did you have to pick the morels with the snake hook? :o :o
-
:( :( :( :( Wooo is me, Wooo is me.. ??? youngin asks.."Hern did you have to pick the morels with the snake hook?"... ??? ??? ??? ??? I thought his edumuncation level was past such a illiterate question :P :P :P :P :P :P :P guess the Purry County blood runs true ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
Lookn4Morels, I use snake hook like a extended hand to move weeds and such in my search. Also when walking though brush I keep hook in front of me to knock down cobwebs. Plus carry for the obvious reason. Very lightweight, and wouldn't be without it hunting Morels.
-
You may want to swap out the hook for the 12 gauge starting this weekend. Unless your better than you look. Lol. ;D ;D
Stuff them morels with a crab and snake meat mixture and you'll be chasing the boss around the yard naked at midnight. ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
:( :( :( He just couldn't leave those thoughts in Vegas :P :P :P :P :P

Stuff them with a crab cake mixture and bake.
-
:) Brushwolf I'd go with the biscuits ;D I have no experience with Crab and Lobster and stuff like that :-[ :-[ to expensive for this old coot :-[ and the stamps won't pay for it :'( :'(....... :P but I do get a biscuit from time to time ;) and there good... ;D ;D ;D....................... 8)

Jasper1
You have that 50lb. Bag of Oatmeal. Maybe Fry in oatmeal?
-
Stuff them with a crab cake mixture and bake.
Sounds real good.😎
-
I like any mushroom fried in butter. That's a good way for Morels.
Wife uses Morels in many dishes, like any other mushroom.
-
Works best if you just cut them in half lengthwise.
-
??? ??? ??? ??? Guess a picture is not worth a thousand words in Lookn4shroons case :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Don't have any pictures to show. I'm usually busy eating them not taking pictures of them. Except this year. Went out one time and found nothing. Been wanting to get out but just have not had the time.

Brushwolf
I found a dozen wile trout fishing. Most were 2 and 3 inch heads on the stem. Just enough for the 4 of us with supper to enjoy.
-
This year I found 40 all was on an old apple orchard. There must be like 400 to 500 apple trees in this orchard and the 40 I found was like around 8 to 10 trees. The rest of the orchard I found zero morals. I don't understand it. But I just got into the world of morals or mushroom hunting in general like last year.
-
The ones I found were in a 40 foot circle.
-
;D ;D ;D Ernie don't be using morels for feesh bait!! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
