Title: NTA Rendee
Post by: Hern on July 31, 2017, 08:15:46 AM
Just got back from Illinois, lock the front door Oh Boy...

The National Trappers Rendezvous was a blast.
4 buildings of vendors, lots of tailgaters.
Got to visit some ole friends & talk with the pro's.
Spent some time with some top notch predator callers too.
4 days with my kind of folks.
I love this stuff.

Attendance was low. But still a dedicated crowd.

One fun thing I did...
North America Fur Association (NAFA) had a free 'fur grading test'.
Test your skills at fur grading.
They had 5 Coyote, 5 Beaver, 5 Coon, 5 Muskrat. All numbered 1-5. All dried & finished.
You had to put them in the right order. Select to Damaged
I failed. 7 for 20.
It was a tuff test since some finished fur looked the same to me.
But NAFA agent took the time with me to correct my mistakes. I learned alot at that table. Time well spent

It was tough, jaspr. I never graded fur. Just kill and put it up.
3 Coyotes looked alike
4 Beaver looked the same
I did good on Coon
3 Muskrats looked the same
After I picked the damaged pelts, It was tough.
A school boy could beat my score. But it wasn't about that.
It was listening to fur agent correct my mistakes. I learned a lot.

Sounded like fun guessing how they would grade. When I go to auctions I try and guess what the lots will bring. Very hard since they are grading fur so hard.
