Why a 22 WMR if you own a 22 Hornet?

Logic!!!!!...once had someone tell me...Why would you want to use a 22 WMR if you already own a 22 Hornet?

Truly the person made a logical point..The Hornet is a bit better and more powerful then a 22 WMR but why even use the 22 WMR for fox if you have a 22 Hornet?

Could be price?  a Marlin bolt action 22 WMR is a lot cheaper then a 22 Hornet?

Maybe someone just wants to get their Jollies by shooting a red fox at 100 yards with a rimfire instead of a center fire????

Gee a Hornet could kill a coyote but wow you shoot it with the 22 WMR he could head to the next county with a laceration only????

Ah maybe the 22 WMR feels better then the Hornet or vice verse???????

Maybe funds are short and that all you can afford a used cheap aurz 22 WMR?

Could be the 22 WMR would make less noise then the 22 Hornet????

One is center fire and one is rim fire. Can 't use centerfire in certain areas. My choice would be the hornet.

If anyone compared the price of ammo for these two...you would find the price for the hornets is above $45 for a box of 50 while the 22 mag is around $17... ???

Buy a Lee handloader and RELOAD it is not diffcult. Then $45.00/box looks $15.00 or less. True guns for 22 mag are less expensive. But wound a fat yote and not recover the animal durning the Mosquito Creek hunt. One could lose a possible $3000-$8000. It might make one cry. Buy a hornet and leave the 22mag for the foxes racoons or whatever else.

Also.....if you already have a 223 you can reload it using Blue Dot powder and make the 223 shoot like a  22 WMR.  Shooting Times magazine had some data on just this.  Downloading the 223 to make it shoot like a 22 WMR.
The ballistics editor "recommended an 223 reduction to shoot like a 22 WMR by using  11.0 grains of Accurate Arms 5744 under a 40 grain Speer spirepoint. The ll.0 grains  shot 1,990 fps from a 24 inch barrel."

Also...Researching a reload book...You could also find a powder and reduce the 223 to 22 Hornet velocities..
Just bounce the 22 Hornet data in a Remington (catalog) factory ammo chart to the same or close to velocities in a 223 reloading chart for the same .224 bullet.. Speer for example always publishes within the charts a  reduced load for every bullet referenced for every caliber...

If you can get 22mag velocities in 223 with Blue Dot, then I suppose one could load to hornet velocities with blue dot powder. Or split the difference between them.
