I think my next gun is going to be a .243.  probably a savage or stevens.  I have been looking for a good deer gun and something to shoot at hogs.  of course my .223 suits me fine for hogs.  in the end though can anyone have too many guns?  that is the million dollar question.
Heh Big Ben,I just got rid of my 30-06 pump for a .243 Model 84 M Montana.--5lbs 4ozs plus an 8oz Leupold Scope.Got tired of carrying the heavier pump. 85 grain Barnes Triple Shock Coppers will do the job on the deer. Its a sweet little unit.

I got a .243 (Savage Weather Warrior) figuring I could use it for coyote if I didn't want to take the .17 Rem. fireball out and also so my kids coming up can use it for deer before they are fully grown.  Well,,,I have yet to find a coyote so scratch that off the list.  However, my girlfriend and my son love shooting the gun.  I stopped using the 30.06 for deer cause I like the caliber so much...even make my longest shot on a deer with it last year and it fell right over with 95 grain Combined Technologies Silver tip.  The 58 grain Hornady VMAX shoot good out of it also.  Currently playing with some 95 grain Berger VLD's for a future Wyoming pronghorn hunt (someday I hope).  I may not go back to the 30.06 again...I'm getting spoiled with the recoil.  Even think when I can afford a AR-15 I will get it chambered in .243 Win.

For chucks and coyotes, the 243. It can be loaded from 50 grain balls, up to 100 or better. For chucks and coyotes, why make them suffer kill them. I say the 243 also if your day hunting for groundhogs and call for coyotes some, and one respondes 250 yards out the 243 loaded with a 58 gr. v-max will be a easier shot with the 243.
I learned my lesson, squirrel season, a 22 mag is the ticket, why? Because i have seen a couple coyotes 60 to 70 yards when i was sportin my fancy CZ 22lr. So now everytime I hunt I try to take the maximum legal fire power I can. So for chucks and coyote a 243. But I also own a 223, at 125 yards at night, it is also a fine rifle. But again the 243 while hog hunting just incase you see that far out coyote. Also dont overlook the 204 for that combination of hunting.

I like both the 6 MM and the 243 for deer...Try the Nosler Partition bullets.  Outstanding deer bullet the Partition..even when it less then 100 grainsd too...I think I use the 90 grainer....
