Title: Lights
Post by: Hunter2327 on September 23, 2013, 05:34:41 PM
So what are all of you using for your shooting lights? I have the EWT Killlight 250 but looking for other options. I would like to use it as my scanning light. Are there any other ones that are brighter than the kill light? Let me know what your thoughts are!

I'm sure everyone will tell you about this years hot new light from ew calls.
I bought one for my self this weekend.
IMO the magnum is the best red led shooting light for me on this years market

+1 for me. I just picked up the magnum gun mounted light from EW Calls and all I can say is wow. This light is freaking awesome. Vastly superior to the kill light 250 I'm using now.

The best lights on the market right now are the ones from ewcalls . Be it his headlight for scanning or the Carnivore Magnum for shooting. His lights are made by a predator hunter for the predator hunter.

To be honest,
I bought the headlight AND the magnum.
And I haven't seen better lights yet.
Got to give credit where it is due

Myself and Bowman were out the other night after purchasing a magnum and a headlamp......IMPRESSIVE LIGHTS......Anyone want to buy a slightly used Coyote TLR Light  ???

The headlight is amazing for scanning. I had no trouble lighting up a deer at 320 + yds and knowing it was a deer at that range across the field. The magnum is by far the best shooting light on the market!

The Magnum light from EWCalls is 1/3 the price and much brighter.......I have one of those lights also.

I was out yesterday into early morning hunting coyotes!  I made three stands,no coyotes!
I was using an E Wilson Ranger shooting rest, EW Carnivore 5 Shooting light. And a Abolt Coyote light on my head!
Wind in my face both lights on! A red fox passed 7 yards in front of me checking the Primos Poerdogg sounds out.
Fox never knew I was there with both lights on.  I could have shot it with my Derringer.  Something how keeping the red lights on when calling make you Stealth!

Does the Magnum come with batteries ??

Is it only a tail mount switch or is there a remote cord available ??

They do not come with batteries.  At the show in Renovo I was letting the type of batteries I sold go at cheap prices or gave them to you because I liked you. You were at the right spot at the right time. Those batteries are all gone now.

I was just on EWILSON web site.... Notice all the optional attachments one can get...Light holders and attachments that centers the light beam in the middle of your reticules.  Shooting rest attachments that you can place your light on the shooting rest... Quick release mounts for the attachments... Makes sense if you want to take the light off ASAP from rest and use it as a hand held light.   Just neat stuff all the options that are available...

Hey Shovelhead....we're all waiting on your opinion of this new light. (LOL)   Did the forum reviews of the magnum light give you a good accurate opinion??  Let us know what you think of it!!!

Set up the Carnivore Mag tonight. It's raining here so that's probably hampering performance a little but. There's an 11 acre field behind my house (my testing ground) I spent about an hour swapping it back and forth checking it out.

The Good (Carnivore Magnum)
The Bad (weather)
& The Ugly (me)

By no means am I an expert at anything, just a guy with a new light. ;D  So, here it is at a glance...... it's larger than what I'm used to, it feels really solid. The lens is larger so, I think it appears bigger than it really is. Even though it's larger there wasn't any problem fitting it on the 42mm scope on my 22mag. I normally have to use a small riser on my 22-250 (50mm scope), the Carnivore Mag was no different.

I got a quick how-to from Ernie yesterday so I was able to hit the ground running, operating the Carnivore Magnum is simple.

It's bright, I mean killer bright (no pun intended). Noticeably brighter than what I was using but, standing off hand I didn't notice any difference in size or weight. A win-win.

With the bolts removed I was able to go out back and watch a pair of does. Normally I have a little trouble if I get over 5x. With the wider beam on the Magnum I was able to turn up to 9x on both scopes and still had plenty of shooting light. I had no problem clearly identifying the does at around 140 yards, clear as day.

Running it on high for about an hour doesn't seem to be a problem with two of EW Calls 18650 batteries.

For whatever my opinion is worth......I think it's a darn nice light and well worth the price. I can't wait to get it out next weekend.

I just received a headlamp from EW Calls today...  Holy smokes, that thing is bright!
Just compared it to my Coyote TLR and the headlamp is as bright as the TLR is! Really like the lower setting as well.

Leaving for Bedford Co. tomorrow to chase the coyotes around for a full week. Looking forward to using the headlamp.

Put some more fur on the Carnivore Mag last night. Called in a double but, missed the second. Couldn't get him stopped.....missed two running shots....them I was empty.

After I was out of ammo the second one stopped about 125 yards away, I could see him clear as day standing there looking at me. This light REALLY works well.

Can you post a link to the one you purchased?

Please don't post the link, It will get removed. We only allow links for our paid sponsors. And we have hunting light retailers who are paid sponsors who I'm sure wouldn't appreciate it much.

Are there links posted that get through, absolutely the moderates can't catch everything.

Thanks for your understanding...Rick

I just purchased a W13 headlamp(red led) from Boondock Outdoors.  I'm actually curious if you could get those cree lights and switch out the white led with a red led.  I'm not very tech savvy so I preferred to play it safe.

Anyone know what up with EW?  After reading all these "I love EW lights" posts, I tried to buy one, and they've been out of stock every day.
I filled out a contact form on the EW site and asked if he could give me any insight, and he never got back to me.
So.... I've been looking for other lights, and I see a ton of great reviews for other lights out there.  I read an 8 page argument on predatormasters forum where they went back and forth on about 20 different lights that one person or another insisted was "the best".  No one even mentioned EW Carnivore Magnum.  Can anyone give me any insight why it's the only light people on this site seem to use, and I can't find it mentioned on any other sites.  I'm in Pittsburgh, and would love to support a PA company.... but I can't find one available to order and I've become curious why other predator sites don't seem to bring them into the conversation.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks!!
Steve

I thought I replied to your email but I did not. Sorry!
I only purchase so many lights each year because it is a fast changing business.  Every year I find better made lights so I do not want to be holding outdated lights. You will have to wait and see if I find something I like this year.

This is just one of the reasons you do not see post about other product's.

EW says-

I was one of the guys that posted Buckwheat's site on huntingpa and received a stern warning from the same moderator.
Just seemed odd to me  on that site, folks mention, recommend, and post web sites for products like Remington, Muck Boots, Mercury Outboards, Archery Gear, Trapping Supplies, Guide Services, DIY Projects, Gun Shops, Fishing Gear but the Predator page is ruled with an iron hand.

Doesn't sound like anything to do with links.  Nobody is bragging on them.... Maybe because few are using them.
I recommended one of these to a friend this past season and of course they were out of stock.  I wanted to pick one up this spring, out of stock

You will have to wait and see if I find something I like this year.

This is why you will most likely never see them compete with the other 19 lights mentioned in that post.  People can't recommend something they don't have.
