STORY:
Set up Sunday pm on this farm,
called in a gray right at dark(after a series of howls)
Partner Jeff took the shot, said it looked good.
Did'nt find it right away, so we figured come back in the morning,
make a stand then look for the gray.
Next am,10-15  min of distress then an interrogation howl lit
two coyotes up 200-300yds behind us, across a field, over the hill in a thicket.
We moved up the hill 200yds to get a better position,
as we did'nt think they'd cross the cut field and hang up
in the thicket edge.
As soon as we got to the top corner, and I had my finger on the male challenge button,
partner Jeff says "there they are!!"
Low and behold they were crossing the open field at 7:30 am,daylight
at a walk.
As luck would have it, they skylined a barn and some buildings,
so we couldnt shoot. We had to watch them walk the 200yds
across the field down to our original set up(to the FX5).
They were still 150yds out.
I told partner jeff that they would return when they met our tracks
coming in.
I don't think they smelled our tracks but saw them.
They turned around and walked back up the hill
but they were'nt sky lined this time.
Male in front female in rear,I barked to stop them 50yds before the thicket but 125-150yds out.
By this time Me and partner Jeff were shaking like dogs and razor blades.
Standing up,no rifle rest, and shaking like a little girl, I sqeezed off the best I could at the male,(just low)
On the shot the female ran down the hill, and the male for the thicket.
Partner Jeff threw lead at the male(miss) Me too (miss)
Then he says the female is running toward us,
I watch him shoot at 40yds and she turns directly at us.
Jeff folded her up at 12yds with his third and last shell.
31.6lbs
Found out after all this that he missed that gray.

Thanks for listening
Thats partner Jeff with the coyote.
My truck.
Might make it in Predator Extreme magazine
if they do a segment on the Penn-Ohio hunt
