Merle Haggard - RIP
« on: April 06, 2016, 05:42:34 PM »
I met Merle on my second return trip from  Vietnam.  Sitting in a bar in Oakland waiting for my flight back to PA. I was in uniform and the bartender brought me a scotch and water and said it was from the guy sitting about four bar stools over.  I walked over to thank him and not until I got there did I realize who he was.  He and I sat there and BS'd for close to three hours, he bought all the drinks, little did he know that I hated scotch.  But I would have sat there and drank scotch & water for another three hours just to listen to some of his stories.  When it was time to leave I thanked him for the drinks and the entertainment, he said "It is I who should be thanking you for wearing the uniform of our country."  Being in class A uniform I had my wings on and he said "ya know my Song Silver Wings wasn't about a jumper."

Rest in Peace Merle.
