We all are trying for the most fur friendly gun... however I understand the fur buyers DON'T frown on if you turn in fox with their head blown up....So maybe we all should be using varmint guns of course with HP etc but we all should be shooting for their head at 100 yards... Just thinking here!!!!
Anyone else confirm that fur buyers will not frown on fox with head shots?
I just turned 65 years old. However thanks to the EW Ranger shooting rest I can make 100 yard shots at night with my rifles yet... Just saying how important a Tripod that holds your rifle is... Not the Y type you need one that holds your entire rifle to make 100 yard head shots at night.. of course you need the appropriate red LED's to... Two of them... One on the rifle or scope and one on your head and or hand for scanning...

Fur buyers like head shots and low in the body. They do not like the back and 1/2 way down the sides damaged. If you only take head shots and low body shots, free hand shots or off any of the shooting sticks you will miss more then you will get. Shoot for mass if you want critters. You will get more fur and have some fun. If you are in it for the fur price and fun you better have good shooting equipment and very accurate rifles in the correct caliber.

I am at a delimena of when hunting coyote with my .243 and a fox shows up letting it walk. Maybe I will take a head shot next time.
-
Yep that's what I would do if I was using a 243 and a fox showed... A Head shot...of course I do use the Tripod rest...

Truly if you want to sell fur use traps and cable restraints...I have to watch out I don't wipe out a farm when I use restraints... :(
-
Yup...headshot if you can get it....

I've gone to wood stretchers when putting up shot predators. Easier when you can use pins to help close up bullet holes.

Buddy told me the heads don't matter when it comes to selling the fur. But if I get a nasty body shot I flesh the skin then baseball stitch to close it using sinew or unwaxed dental floss. Easy as pie to do and can't see the hole on the fur side! Takes time to do it but after doin a couple dozen last year I'm pretty quick now.

Going back to your first post on the merits of the tri x stand, I shot a fox Thursday at 200 and tonight at 187 with the rest. ;D
-
Thanks UB. How much do those gun rests cost?
-
Shooting rest Tripods you stand and shoot run from $100 to $375.
Best would be Ernest Wilson aka Buckwheat. Check his web site out for lights and stands!
Then you have Caldwell tripod !
BOG Devil Tripod!
Primos Shooting Styks tripod standing!
I like Buckwheats the best of the 4 I mentioned!
I own 3 of the 4 mentioned. I don't own the Caldwell!
