17 HMR AT 250 YARDS
« on: July 15, 2009, 02:33:10 PM »
Believe it. Muttbuster nailed a grass rat at 250 yards last night. I nailed one at 200 yards. I real surprise to the both of us. Both guns were CZ rifles.

2 questions. Was you using .17 or .20 grainers ? And was it a head shot ?

I've found that they both work well on young ones but the older ones are kinda tuff out past 200 yards.( not a kill'n shot, bang flop.) With my .243 wssm, I don't have that problem too much.

Good shoot'n, needless to say !!  ;)

George, we were in Allegheny so that's all we could use. I would have preferred my 223wssm but the law man says no.

Had too many crawl backs with the .17 grainers. Switched to the .20 grainers and there was a BIG difference. Had to resight the gun though. Pretty much a bang flop under 100 yards.  Then again, I'm only shoot'n head shots.  ;D

I said we nailed them ONLY. Good caliber under 150 yards only and those must be good hits.

.5's ain't no good. :D

BTW, is this contest for quality or quanity ? Why would you need a dump truck ? Want to do both ? It would still, maybe, take TWO of younz to beat me. The winner is still alive and well. I got it down to the time of day that he comes out. Took out a contender last week. He just messed with me one too many times. Couldn't help myself. ;D

LOngest groundhog from NOISE to TAIL. If we fill up a dump truck we have more chances to win. Tape is in 1/16,1/8.1/4. etc. REMEMBER.

LOL  Measure groundhog with tape, take picture, submit.

Earl, I think we should go out and practice this evening with a bigger musket and hone our skills. George is talking a pretty big story so we must be prepared.
