Title: Massur Birch/Antler Howler
Post by: Lookn4Fur on July 01, 2008, 08:50:18 PM
Started a call a couple months ago and didn't like the way it was turning out so I set it aside.  I looked at it last night and decidied it sat there long enough so I re-worked it and added an antler tennon to the top.  Hope you like it.  Massur Birch and Antler Howler.

Nice howler call for your first try with your tenon wood and antler fit. No worries if bootmud thinks it sounds like a law suit when you blow on it. It is still nice looking call even with out a warrant served LOL. However be carful, the coyotes are getting use to that call shape and might hang up out there and just bark back at you and not come in. Tim I see no lanyard grove, are you planning on another type of lanyard holder.

Thanks Buckwheat.  It's not my first tennon fit but it may be my best.  The shape of the call was dictated by the scrap that I had laying around.  I already turned the blank somewhat when I decided I did not like it.  I did not want to waste the piece of wood so that's the shape I used.  I decided to put the call in my collection so I did not put a lanyard groove in it.  Probably should have but if I ever decide to hunt with it, I'll have to put it in my pocket.  As far as the call shape being used a lot, respectfully, I can only half agree with you.  How many thousands of Circe, Critr-Call, and Tally Ho's are being used and they still work.  A lot has to do with the person behind the call (ME)............Tim

If you decide to put a lanyard grove in the call it can still be easily done as long as there is enough wood left on the lanyard area. Good thing you only agreed with half of what I said because if you read my post I said a coyote could recognize the shape, not the sound. No wild coyote could tell what the shape looks like no matter how smart some people think they are. LOL
