My dad use to do it in the swamps. He fish for carp. I would like to try it with a crossbow.

I like to wade up the stream in the summer and shoot them with my old stick bow and junk arrows. The stream can not have water over your chest in a lot of places or it does not work.  No string is attached to the arrows, just chase the fish down and get the arrow back. Most people would be surprised how tight to cover fish can get to stay hidden from ya. I have not done this in 10 years, but what a great way to spend some time. I might have to bug my old fish sticken buddy and see if he would like to beat me one more time. LOL

I wonder how deep a light weight cross bow bolt will go in water. I am thinking of getting a cross bow for hunting a little this fall, might be one more reason.

What's the laws for bowfishing? Do I need a hunting license or fishing and can I shoot carp all year?

BOW AND ARROW (including compound bows and crossbows) may be used for taking ONLY carp and suckers on all Commonwealth waters, day or night, except in approved trout waters during the closed season and in special regulation waters. On the Delaware River, catfish and herring (shad excepted) may also be taken with bow and arrow (including compound bow and crossbow), spear or gig, except within 275 yards of an eel weir.

I bow fish Speedwell Lake in Lancaster County a few times every year.  It's a ton of fun.
