Just what exactly is a "coons age"?
-
'a coons age'; backwoods, hillbilly term to express a long period of time

Dates back to the early 1800's when people thought that coon's were long lived. Since coon fur is hardy and long lasting it may have given them reason to believe that coon's lived a long time.
