Title: Keep the shovels out
Post by: mountain dog on February 08, 2010, 06:52:43 PM
Just watched the weather a little while ago. I hate to say it but here we go again. They are calling for 12 to 14 in our area with high winds. This will start tues. afternoon till wens. night. With that much snow plus what we have it might be a long week. It will be tough on all wildlife.
Have a good day

yeah gonna be bad.  they are calling for 6-10 here.  gonna stink personally.  I noticed about 5 inchs melted today and yesterday where I live.  but the piles of snow still seem huge here at the house.

Yea the piles of snow around our parking area/driveway melted last week. No so now.
Ben, it's a good time of year for snow. Better now then spring, summer or fall.
And the bugs ain't too bad this time of year ;D

"Gentleman Start Your Engines"!!!!
Suppose now it just "Start Your Engines!"
The Engines I am referring too are the engines on your snow blowers!!!!!!

It is snowing here right now. And it is pretty hard. I have to go to Bedford at 5:30 to get my taxes done. Might be a interesting trip. I'll let you know when I get back.

I have 15 inches on the ground yet, had 22 inches. I need no more snow because all the bugs are all buried. I watched a Redfox at work leap from place to place until he got to a Calvert. He has to be sick of it also. LOL

Heck, round 2 has just started and #3 is on the west coast right now. Might have to get to drag'n some snow off the roofs pretty soon. Seen one of my neighbors shoveling his roof off today.( allready ripped his gutter off one side of the house)

It's doing the same thing with this storm as the last. It's 33 degrees right now and it's wet and heavy snow coming down. Not supposed to be above freeze'n for the rest of the week. Just hope the power stays on this time.

You know some people damage their shingles doing this too...Also know of two people that died. they fell off the roof removing snow.  See this is why one has homeowners insurance....I know their is a deductible..However you can do more damage with the shovel to your roof and also to yourself.....

Bummer!!!!!Just looked outside... Twilight.....No light would be nneded this evening...However where would one park on the now what was 22.5 inches of snow?...Probably down a bit maybe 18 inches but still no place to park the Foxmobile (Saturn SL2).  The other vehicle a Chrysler town & Country  Van...While it be good to take you to Texas to hunt predators sure is not a good vehicle to hunt Pa Predators in a snow storm!!!!!!!!

put the chains on the Trooper when i got home tonight from work.....gonna head in around 5am and hope to beat all the idiots on the roads. luckily my way to work is all backroads so dealing with other drivers at that hour is slim to nill. will probably be one of only a few on that road at that time. the real tricky part is going to be getting home...the brunt of this one is gonna happen tomorrow. talking blizzard conditions with "thunder snow" and high winds.....yeash!

12-20" i just saw predicted for me.

was planning on going calling tonight but its coming down harder than i anticipated at this hour already. i aint been out hunting in forever it seems. >:(

I now have a couple of inches of new snow already and it is to snow all night and tomorrow all day. I wonder if there is room in that Calvert. :>)

You are absolutely correct....a shovel and shingles dont mix.

A ladder along side of a house with ice on the ground does not mix either...

Am off work today due to weather conditions....
I work for a major trucking company and we are closed today due to weather and road conditions. Years ago, they would send drivers out on days like this and think nothing of it, like it was a sunny day.
I think insurance has something to with saying off roads nowadays.

Ernie, I heard you folks got lots of snow. Good. Keep it to southern Pa....LOL.
After today, the snow may be axle deep to a Ferris Wheel!!

I'm still loving the snow. This is the most I have ever seen. We will have about 50 inches in less then a week.

Off topic, but, do you guys know when the next extreme predator issue comes out? I joined PPHA in early January and haven't gotten one yet.

I used the wrong "verbage". Instead of shovel, I meant to say "push'n/drag'n " device. A long handled scraper so to speak. You don't have to take everything off. Extreme conditions call for things that you would not normally do for self preservation.

Yes, you have home owners ins. but to do NOTHING and let the roof cave in is not really a smart move !!!!

Predator Extreme  is provided Bimonthly....(Every Other Month)  I got my February issue in Late January.  Looks like the next issue is April's??????Hopefully you get yours by the mid or end of March time frame.

I  fell off of a ladder two January's ago cleaning out leaves from my gutter...Knew it could happen with ice on the ground and it did.. Lucky The rung on the ladder did not break my leg.  Had cable restraints set in the wild too at that time. X Ray proved no breaks of the femur etc etc..  Put leaf guards on the gutters after that experience that Spring....thank God I was taking plenty of Calcium since no bones broke.

So , lets get this straight, you would rather hunt fox and let your roof collapse ? Don't make sense to me, but to each his own. Whatever !!!!!! ???

Well boys...from what the weather man says we could be in for round three the start of next week.  We got about 10" so far here in Clfd. Co.  Its hard to measure with the winds blowing it around.  My job actually closed at 1 due to the weather...its the first time since I worked there that we closed early do to the weather.  Roads have sucked since yesterday...we have had multiple MVA's all of the roads, and one on I-80 involving 50+ vehicles which has now caused at Tractor-Trailer to get "stuck" under a low railroad bridge about a mile from my house.  So people just never want to follow the posted detours.
If you do have to travel...Stay safe everyone!!!

We are in a blizzard warning till 4am tomorrow. Just got back from my moms today after 6 days without power. Already had to fix a pipe and the Water company had to replace a cracked meter drenching my cellar.

I'm not sure of the official amount we got, it blew around so much that some areas looked like we got 4 feet  ;D

I think my guesstimate was a little off earlier.....we did get about 8-10 this morning and probably got an additional 6-8, it looked like about 16 on the vehicles....so thats what my guess will be.....anywho....it was too much IMO...and Monday is just gonna torque me off more if snows again.....I love snow...but this is too much love for me  ;D

Just to let you guys know that there's a tool made just for "roof snow".

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Midwest-16-Snow-Roof-Rake/13062184

I will find out how good this thing is. Mine will be here tomorrow. Sounds like monday or tuesday there's some more weather coming in.

Works pretty good but now that I got this, I'll not wait till there's 2-3 inches of ice underneath the snow. Fresh stuff would be easier. Not to mention get'n over the 6 inches of ice at the gutters.

Just like most specialty things you buy, now that you got it you may never need it again. Took quite a few years to realize the return on buying a plow for the quad. ;D
