Well, as my luck would have it, I didn't enter the bobcat contest this year. I have the past two years with no luck. I managed to bag a nice female this morning. I will share the story and tactics I used. I had a late start to the morning (sick toddler at home). I got to my spot and set up around 9 am. I placed my foxpro inferno with decoy about 50 yards away. Fired up the decoy and selected lucky bird as my sound of choice. I was planning on staying on stand for an hour and changing sounds every 20 minutes. I've read that cats have A D D and can lose interest, so I wanted to keep things interesting. I played lucky bird for the full 20 minutes. I started off with it at full volume. I would lower the volume after 3 or 4 minutes, then raise it back to full volume for 3 or 4 minutes, just to try and keep it interesting. At the 20 minute mark I switched over to nutty nuthatch. At the 22 minute mark I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. It was indeed a bobcat! It ran up to within 20 yards of the foxpro and hunkered down by a rock. I bumped the volume down to about half volume to keep it focused on the decoy and sound. I adjusted myself for a shot. Placed the crosshairs on the front shoulder and squeezed off a round. The cat instantly spun around and ran about 20 feet and hunkered down low. I quickly chambered another round and fired again. She dropped in her tracks. I shot her with a savage axis II chambered in .223. I used Remington 45 grain jhp factory loads with very minimal entry and exit wounds. I have a picture, but am unable to post it. It's on my cellphone and if I try it says the image is too large. I can email it to anyone who would be willing to post it for me.

I've seen it, it surely is a nice specimen. If no one does it Ray I'll do it later this evening.

Nice going!!! Cats are cool.

Thanks Ernie. I agree. Cats are cool. I have a lot of respect for them. Lots of people at work like to bust my chops and tell me to just trap them. Personally, I wanted the challenge of calling one in and watching it hunt me. It was priceless!
