24 degree's this morning  ;D While checking the few traps I have out,I ran across something a little unusual  ??? There was a squirrel with it's chest area (lungs) eaten out, right next to one of my DP's. DP was untouched....anyone out there, what do you think?  ::) I was thinking maybe a mink or weasel  ??? but when I think I usually get into trouble  ::) ::) ::)................... 8)

Any squirrel hair or blood around or was it just lying there half eaten?  May have been a bird of prey just dropped it (crow, hawk or owl).  Hard to say.
"Predators are either active & feeding, semi-active & callable, or utterly inactive & then practically speaking, no call is needed; we're just taking our guns for a walk. We can & should get used to it, & follow their leed cuz they just ain't eager nor apt to follow our’s any time soon!

Paul, I have no clue. Another trapline mystery.

This afternoon, I traveling a tractor path through a corn field.
Farmer was picking corn in this field. A dead Rabbit laid on the two track. I stopped and it had a small hole in it's side. Enough hair laying on ground that it looked like it was pecked by a Crow. Rabbit was fresh. My thoughts were the Corn picker killed it somehow without any noticeable damage (maybe the small hole in it's side). Another mystery in the middle of no where land...

Around noon today, my son, Kyle, and I were at the same farm I found a dead Rabbit yesterday.
We drove out the corn stubbles to set a few more traps in the field that was picked yesterday.
I saw a dark thing ahead and said, 'That's the biggest rock I ever saw in this river bottom.'
Kyle said, 'It's a Deer! A dead Deer!
Very nice 7-point with wide spread and long tines (1 fresh broken tine). Back end was eaten a little bit. We examined and could not see any tell tale sign of death. This field is between a highway and railroad tracks so we assumed it was hit by vehicle or train. We hightailed it back to farmer's shed and told him about it. He ask if we would drag it to the corner of the field. I told him I can do that and I had a strap in the pickup. He said his brother would want to cut the horns off.
Seemed odd, not a mark on the Deer or no broken legs other than a fresh broken tine.

One sure way to get a better idea would be to skin him and get a look see for signs of trauma!  ;)
