Chimney's are they even needed on houses anymore such as houses with gas heat and water?  I know gas furnaces are no longer bled off into a chimneys in some houses. They run the pipe out of the side of the house now.. Do you need a chimney for a gas water heater or can they also be just exhausted the same was as gas furnaces now.. Just out the side of the house.. Also what if kids or people touched these exhaust pipes or hoods?  I'm just curious.

the oil furnance is vent through the chimney.  the pellet stove in the house if vent through the old wood burning chimney and the one out the cabin is vented through the side of the cabin with insulated 3in pipe, only gets warm.

a lot of people in my area still burn wood which is really good to determine wind direction when out hunting.
