Title: Primos night lights
Post by: lone howler on December 12, 2009, 11:10:27 AM
Anyone got any reviews on any of the Primos brand night lights? I was looking at the 350 yard 6 volt with the flip red cover.  I also seen this new LED one and had doubts about it reachin 100 yards.

I have the 250yd 6v light and it works real good.  That was on my shot gun.  I bought a Western river light for my 17 hmr and the lighter in my pocket was brighter.  So I have to switch the Primos light between guns for now.

The only trouble I have had with the 350yd. light is it not handling the recoil if on a shotgun. The LED light is nice and light weight with batteries being inside light. Compared to the 100 yard primos it is as bright but I would not say it is any brighter. Not sure how it will hold up under hunting conditions since I have not hunted with it only seen one.

The LED light is the third place prize in the  PPHA member vs. member hunt so if your not registered for the hunt yet make sure you do you may just get it .

Nice to hear the 250 Primos light works great. I helped a women out in Cabelas at Hamburg. She was packing her basket with Primos products.. She was going with the 350 yard light without a battery pack.  She  had a Cabelas Wildlife feeder battery to power the Primos light in her basket.. I told her all her gear was good but I did not think her husband would not like rigging the 350 light with a wildlife feeder battery. I showed her the 250 Primos light and that it came with a battery that would hook on his belt...
Um what battery do you use for the 350 Primos light? Do you use the 250 yard  battery for it?

I use the Wizard scope light most times on my scope and it works great....Most shots are not ever at 250 yards.. Maybe 100 to 150 so maybe just maybe the 350 light could be an over kill.  Unless it light up the predator at 100 yards well without scaring it away....
Of course what one should do when they illuminate an animal now that is a different story...Best to learn that by sitting with a group of PPHA hunters at a get together or via a phone con.....

The 350 light is a 12v.  You can get a 12v battery from Cabelas and it comes with a charger.  You can also get 2 batteries w/charger for $49.99 from Cabelas.

Does the 350 yard light attach easy to the therminals of the Cabelas batteries?   What kind of jacks are on the end of the  350 yard light?  Male Jack, Female Jack , Alligator, etc.  I will have to go to the  Primos site and see what all these shooting lights SPECS reveal.

The terms on the cabelas battery are your standard male/female flat connectors.

The 350 yard light also comes as a 6 volt. All 3 the 100 ,250 and 350 all can use the same battery.

That is good.  It would be better to have the 6 volt 350 then since you could change out lights to different guns and use the same battery...

I have 3 of the 350 yard lights. I like them they work out decent. I wish the battery would last longer.

I purchased  one of the Primos 250 yard 6 volt lights for Christmas...Only time will tell..If it turns out to be not quite the shooting light.. I will attach it to a 1" dowel or broom handle and use it for when I want to use a hand held light...

i ordered the 350 kit the other day, list price was 99.00 got 20 off for ordering it through bass pro.  should last all night when using it just as a shooting light.

Using these lights for scanning purposes they do NOT last long...we used one for awhile that was not attached to the gun and just grabbed the bottom of the light and used it as a hand-held light...now as scott says, it should last all night if you're only using it as a scope mounted light...if you were going to use it for scanning, I would grab yourself some bulbs to switch it to a 12v source, or try finding at 6v batter with more amps...

Im new to this sight, but ive been reading this forum, and night hunting for a while now, and i can say, i just took my first coyote last night using the primos 250 light. I will say, just like any light, the red lens really darkens the glow, so i wonder if getting the 350 might work a little bit better. Overall im happy with the primos 250 so far.

Congratulations,  more of a story please.   how far was it, did you use a rifle or shotgun?  did the light, light up the whole animal.

I saw somewhere in a hunting book a  light...Called a laser but it does not pin point a spot on the animal..It lights the animal up just like a light.  I was  thinking that it would be outstanding...It does not put a point of aim on the animal just lights them up in entirety.... I will have to do some looking in my magazines. Um i'm thinking it might be the new  NRA Hunter magazine?

did you see the new one in the Cabelas book you were talking about, the spring one, it is a 3 led scope light, 530 luments for 119.00.

Here is the scope light I referenced in my previous post....Wow....I think this one would be legal too.. Since it does not place a point of aim on the animal..I just lights them up..OK..Yep it was in Jan 2010 American Hunter, Page 34.  $329.95  ND-3  Long Distance Laser Designator.

its classified as a "class 2m laser product"...lasers are illegal in PA. yes?

This one can be real debatable?  Laser that place a dot on an animal and you shoot for that spot..That is not legal.  However this looks like it's a light that lights up the animal then you aim with your scope.. Wow if this thing is legal...???I don't know if it is or not. However if it lights them up and they do not run away. then it would be worth the $329.00.  It still would be fair chase since you have to make the shot with your scope.  This resembles just a shooting light on top of a scope..

I read the info on the web site.  This laser light can be adjusted from the flood light, down to a fine beam of light.  So I believe it would be illegal.

If this is true...That it could be adjusted down to a fine beam of light.  then I would agree with you that it would not be legal...Since you would now have a fine beam that is now striking a portion of the animal. Ah we like the old ways anyway...It would be to simple to hunt with lazers...

Chances are anyway at the wide beam..It would scare the animal away anyway and you would be out $329.00.

sorry guys, i shot it with a 22-250, "using the white lens" , it  came running at me with the light shining the whole time to around 50 yards, and thats when i "sorry to admit " missed it, the coyote took off ,looking back at me, so a follow up shot, around 75 yards caught it right behind the head. I also used my foxpro spitfire starting out with a coy. challenge howl, followed by a series of grey fox disstress. when i saw eyes i went to the mouth calls.  sorry but the picture wont load.

Guys, I tested one of the lazer lights and I have to say I think they're not ready for prime time just yet. Not at all bright enough on a dark background at night and still not bright enough on a light or white background. The light it self out to about 75 yards will work but I think it's a lot of money for a light that is no better than what we already have. In the next few years I'm sure they will improve the light to do the job we all want it to do now. It's just not there yet.
