222 who owns one?
« on: April 11, 2009, 08:12:11 PM »
Anyone still use the 222 Win for fox and or chucks?  Feb I purchased a  used Savage Model 340 with mounts and a 9 X 12 Weaver scope..... Understand the 50 grain bullet is the best in the 222?  Anyone have any loads they like to use in their 222?
I do reload so buying an older caliber fox gun does not bother me....

Because all of the March winds here in SCPA...I have not yet had a chance...However this week....I am going to the club and shoot the 222,  22250, and my 17 Rem Encore...   Hoping all are grouping fine....Not so bad if the powder ain't right.  However nothing worse then having a scoped rifle shoot all over the paper.....If so might me the Encore that would do that... I might have to play around with the forearm and the pin...Never had to do that before with factory barrels... This one is a custom barrel so you never know what one has to do...

I just received communications from Gerald Stewart on this... He confirmed that it was the Silver Tip 55 grain used with the 223 caliber and not the 22250 that was outstanding as a fur gun.

One can watch him shooting bobcat on the PV4 using a 223 and not the 22250 and the Winchester Silver Tip 55 grainers.

He thinks the 22250 would still be to much gun for fox utilizing the Win/CombinedTech Silvertip  55 grain bullets.

However since the 222 Rem is like the 223 I would bet that the 50 grain Winchester Silver Tip .224 Winchester Combined Techonoligies bullet (reload not factory ammo)  would work just like the 223 with the 55 grain Win Silvtip bullet.

MY buddy has a 222 and we use to tease him. We told him he was one short of a full load. We all used 223.

have a .222 over 20 gauge.
Honestly never shot it over 100 yrds. I like it. use it for predator hunting only. I use Remington core lokt ammo.  Seemed to shot the best out of the ammo i tried.

was going to try some hornady revolution ammo and want to try the varmint gernade type
