Sharpening Mower Blades
« on: September 27, 2012, 07:32:47 AM »
Am looking for a machine to sharpen my mower blades.
Precise angle, low speed, set angle.
Do you have any experience with this type sharpener? Any Suggestions?

The fella at the mower shop has one, but it's back in the far corner and I can't get a good looksee.
I want to purchase my own. Would pay for itself in a few seasons with 3 sharp blades @ $5 a pop. Plus I could do my families blades to save them some moola.

I use a 8" wheel grinder with no problems. Most shops use a magnamatic blade grinder that is several hundred dollars. http://www.magna-matic.com/

Exactly! I bought a 8" bench grinder at Lowes for around $120 and made that money back with in the first two months. I bought one that had the most amount of wheel away from the motor and a balancer. I to was spending $6 a blade to get sharpened but when you are getting 18 blades sharpened at a time, it adds up.

4 1/2 hand grinder and a balancer for me. One thing that is not mentioned is when using any type of motorized unit, keep a container of water handy to dip the blades in. Don't want to take the temper out of the blades.

note~ hate to rake leaves........check out some atomic mulching blades from Oregon.  ;)
