GAME COMMISSION/WILDWOOD PARK TO HOST PROJECT WILD WORKSHOP
HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Game Commission and Dauphin County Parks and Recreation's Wildwood Lake Sanctuary are hosting a Project WILD Educator Workshop from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Feb. 11, at Dauphin County's Wildwood Lake County Park, 100 Wildwood Way, just off Industrial Road in Harrisburg.
"Project WILD is an award-winning, international, hands-on conservation education program that was started more than 25 years ago," said Theresa Alberici, who oversees the program for the Game Commission. "It teaches people about wildlife and the environment and how humans interrelate with both.
"Workshop participants earn Act 48 hours, and will be able to take back to their classrooms the Project WILD activities book and curriculum guide and a new supplement, which specifically addresses Pennsylvania wildlife, as well as books and handouts. Educators who attend also will have the opportunity to do some of the hands-on activities that they can then use in their classrooms."
Project WILD provides educators, primarily kindergarten through 12th grade, with interdisciplinary activities that address state and national education standards. Project WILD's materials are scientifically sound and use educational practices proven to be effective.
The basic 500-page K-12 Activity Guide has more than 120 activities to help educators teach skills from analysis to synthesis using a wide variety of environmental related topics. The activities have been designed so educators can easily incorporate them into almost any classroom curricula and nearly any subject - not just science but also reading, English, social studies, math, civics or art.
There is a $10 fee to cover the costs of the workshop, including a small snack. Pre-registration is required, and interested educators should call Wildwood at 717-221-0292.
GAME COMMISSION/ZOOAMERICA TO PROVIDE WILDLIFE WORKSHOP
The Pennsylvania Game Commission and ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park are sponsoring a Pennsylvania's Biodiversity wildlife education workshop on Feb. 26, at ZooAmerica in Derry Township, Dauphin County.
Feb. 16 is the deadline to register for the workshop, which is designed for upper elementary, middle and high school classroom teachers and non-formal educators who work with children. The program correlates to the Environment and Ecology Standards and is approved for six Act 48 hours.
"Participants will receive the new Pennsylvania Biodiversity guide, and a chance to explore the diversity of wildlife of North America at this popular zoo in the 'Sweetest Place on Earth,'" said Theresa Alberici, Game Commission Wildlife Conservation Education specialist, who facilitates and administers Project WILD. "Through the use of resource materials and hands-on activities, participants will investigate the concepts of biodiversity, examine local and global issues relating to biodiversity and investigate the many ways biodiversity affects every day lives."

Project WILD is one of the most widely-used conservation and environmental education programs among educators of students from kindergarten through 12th grades.
