You might want to contact your local senators just to get them on board  with the idea of the gun mounted light issue. It only takes a few minutes of your time and every little bit helps the effort. Don't forget to stress the "saftey factor" when speaking to them and be polite with them. And just as a side note, you don't have to be an officer or hold a position with the club to do this. Thanks in advance to the ones who will give a few minutes of your time.     George

Well I was out having fun taking some nice wild life video pictures of some fence lizards I found; when George Rue calls me on my cell and asked if I had seen this weeks schedule for the Senate Game and Fisheries. Tuesday 10:30 HB881 is out on the floor, I hope you guys called your Senator, if not you only have tomorrow.
Thanks George
Ernie

Does it have the provision for gun-mounted lights this time or is it written the same as it was before?

We are trying to get the amendment added for the GML issue. That's the reason for the phone calls. There is a good chance that this could get done. BUT, only with the members and other hunters help.

Hurdle #1 has been accomplished. The amendment has been added and if I got it correctly, it goes to the senate floor to be voted on and if passed, goes back to the house for a vote and on to the govenor. I want to give senator Richard Kasunic and his staff a big thank you and a job well done. I would also like to thank Ernie and Ben and any of the others for their time and effort with the GML issue.

Hurdle #2 is complete. HB 881 passed the senate as amended by a 50 yes/0 no vote. It goes back to the house now for another vote. As soon as I know the agenda for this bill in the house, I will make a post. :D

It's on the govenors desk right now and he has ten days to take action on it. If no action is taken, then on the 11th day it becomes law. :D

I've been waiting to say my thank you's, so here it goes. 1st I would like to thank Senator Richard Kasunic and his staff. 2nd,to all the Representatives. Starting with Rep. Haluska,Rep Daley,Rep Levdansky, Rep Mahoney, Rep Harhai, Rep Rohrer, Rep Staback, Rep Kula, and all the others that helped with this bill. And last but not least, A VERY big thanks to Ernie and Ben and the PPHA members that stepped up and made those phone calls and sent the e-mails. I know that there probably was others that had a hand with this and to them I say thanks also. This was my first time with a legislative issue and I learned alot.  :D

So all that's left is.........

deciding on the best setup to use.

Suggestions?

Actually, it would be really cool if at the next PPHA event, a few who have experience using a GML will show how they setup and work the lights.

Did we do anything for the main players that helped get this bill passed. Maybe we should send them a t-shirt with a formal letter thanking them.

I dont know if we have this but if these senators and people on the board are going to be are allies maybe we can make them honorary members? I dont think we have that but maybe its something we can look into, ofcourse they dont have the same rights as an active member.

just thinking

Ya know, I had the same thoughts about this. And being that said, I think this should be brought up to the exectutive committee for their thoughts.

Buckwheat and myself were at our cabins this weekend. i'll speak to him about this tomorrow.

we've done honorary memberships before for several people so it's doable... lets think about this though, there were a lot more people behind the scenes who had a lot more time into this then those 2... not to minimize what they did but thats a good way to hurt feelings...

Members
My term as president is soon to finish. So if you do not like my reply you may change it in a couple of weeks if you like. This is how I feel, I have thanked everyone that helped me and the club personally and are now done thanking people. Too make some one an honorary member is easy; picking them is the hard part. This is just my opinion, who is to say someone is better then another. I know a lot of people that have done a ton of things in the past and present for this club. I am not interested picking.

I am in agreement with Dale and Ernie on this. I think we've shown our gratitude.
Besides, bestowing this honor on a politician might not be in their best interest down the road, politically.

dreamcatcher wrote "I think we've shown our gratitude. " what did we do?

Buckwheat, I haven't heard one person say a negative thing about you and I believe we all respect your opinion very much  I know I do, and you have done alot to get get the bill pass, so dont ever hold back how your opinions.

Its just been my political experience that people like "gifts". Like for instance a dept I was with would send proclomations with a seal (do we have a seal) with a frame.

I did not talk to or work with the people on the committess, board and office so I dont know if we built a relationship with them or this was a one time thing. Buckwheat and others worked hard with those people and what ever relationship they formed should be maintained for future bills and such.

Not talking about aligning ourselves with a polical party or agenda.

As soon as we go beyond a verbal "Thank You" we are aligning ourselves with a party and/or agenda. These folks are public servants and have already been handsomely paid.  I agree, people like gifts.  I, for one would rather see our past presidents never have to pay dues again.

I agree with no dues for anyone holding office while they hold a office. A small way of saying thanks .
