Title: S.E. PA Range Day
Post by: 220_Woody on February 22, 2009, 09:53:24 AM
now that fur season is done...alot of us are turing our attention to groundhogs now. time to go put small holes in some paper and make sure the chuck guns are ready to roll for the summer.

what i'm thinkin of doing is reserving the SGL 43 Shooting Range for the PPHA in late March or early April for rifle sighting and alittle friendly competition. its only a 100yd range so the shooting wont be too difficult for the adults;D. there is a 50yd range for the kids to shoot.

ALL PPHA MEMBERS ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND...NO MATTER WHAT DISTRICT YOU RESIDE, BRING THE KIDS!.

SGL 43~ http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/pgc/game/maps/zoom_maps.asp?sgl=43&rgn=Southeast&submit.x=7&submit.y=10

Sundays in mind are March 29th or April 12th

to those that are interersted....which sunday would work best for out for you?

feedback is appreciated so i can get an idea on the # participating.

thanks

~Woody

okay, after a couple of minutes to think about it.......and now that i can't edit my post....

instead of opening up the dates for debate which will take weeks to hammer out. this is what i propose

the shoot will be on Sunday, March 29th......RAIN DATE will be April 12th.

bring your own bag lunch and drink, thinking of reserving half the range for 2 or 3 hrs in the afternoon.

Bingo is another interesting game you can play at 50 and 100 yards. Call the number and shoot a bullet into the Bingo card.

Hit as many fly's as you can at 50 yards and 100 yards. Not easy.

I might be up for that.  I need to shoot my .17HMR and and the CZ .223 I just got.  The .223  was owned by an older guy that had it zeroed pretty good.  So I'll see.

Hey Dave, what model is your CZ? Does it have the single set trigger?

Very nice gun. I don't have the set trigger so I had a gunsmith adjust the trigger to 1.5 lbs. It is one of my favorite guns.

FoxPro51,

thanks for the PM's. the fly shoot sounds like a good idea.

will probably come up with a nice prize for the closest to the fly or something. adult and junior bracket would be great if we get enough participation.

Count me in. If it is possible I'll be there. Earl, do you have any elephant targets for me. They're easier for me to get close to. If I'm having a good day, I just might hit one.

You should try a 2 man team night shoot at predator targets with the reflective tacks in the eyes (so it looks real) and red lights.

I think the night shoot idea would be great..but dont think you can get a SGL range for nights...I believe only WCO range training can be conducted at night on state ranges...I know I sure could use some practice at it   ;D

maybe a private club might be availble.  I know mt holly fish and game here in south central pa has varmint shoots at night but not like we do.  I know one of the guys on the board for em.  I might be able to set something up at there range to shoot at eyes like predator 77 mentioned.  but we might have to rent the range and we also might have to allow mt holly fish and game club members attend also.  I would like to do something like this at a farmers field but trying to setup something safe and something that the cops wouldn't show to would be a hassle.

Try to bring the local police on board with your plan and invite them too. Some my local cops are some crack shots. They also like long distance hog hunt'n. I give them a heads up when I'm going out at night. The chief stopped in and said thanks. Saves them time and effort. They still do a drive by,cause they have to respond, but don't hassle ya. ;D

well i was hoping to make a call to the PGC to reserve the range this week....but beings only two guys have spoken up so far. can't see reserving a public range for the PPHA for a couple hours for only 3 guys.

unless i get a good handful of participants by say...the 18th. i will postone this event.

thanks Swarter and Buersgrove for the interest ;), but i cant see you guys being the only ones to drive out here for this.

I think woody canceled due to the lack of interest.
Title: Re: S.E. PA Range Day
Post by: 220_Woody on March 29, 2009, 11:44:07 PM
hwyflyr~ i may reschedual another range day later this spring. Swarter is correct in the reasoning for the cancelation.

on a side note: i am considering planning a fishing derby for the PPHA kids here at my house. i got two big ponds that are in need of some bluegill thining. nobody had fished these ponds at all in years. its over-run with bluegill and i want to feed the local coons with our days catch. gotta reduce the competition for food with the bass in there so they can get bigger. was out there this weekend and pullled out 15 of them suckers on saturday....went back out this morning and ALL of them were gone....coon and fox scat EVERYWHERE! wishin i had a trail cam set up over the pile of fish....woulda made for some great pics i'm sure of it. i got mink & muskrats down there too so i'm sure they might have gotten a piece of the fish pie too.

will probably get the grill fired up and do some burgers and dogs for the kids....maybe some prizes for all the kids in attendance. should be alot of fun. any member with kids living within an hour of me should bring them out to drown some worms. the action is great down there on the water

gonna pick a weekend here soon....stay tuned if your interested in a day on the water with the kids.

everyone is invited Keystoneman.....there are supposed to some catfish in those ponds, have yet to catch one or see one for that matter!

it'll be more geared for the kids of members...but all are welcomed.

was looking at the calender today, got some weekends in mind. no decision made on a date yet though. stay tuned.
