Title: I need a scope light.
Post by: predator77 on November 21, 2010, 07:47:17 PM
The 6 volt lantern style I bought of an old member has become unrealiable so I need a good scope light for a cheap price. It don't have to be new. Anyone getting rid of a light?

Try. Coleman light they work great. Light cost like 14.00 on the net. Just hook it io to a battery. Almost bright as the light force. Use weaver rings to attach it to scope.

I made the mistake of buying a $3.50 Rayovac. The plastic is thin but I added a reinforcment (wafer sent cap) for support at the base. I also added springs (faucet replacment kit) and rubber washers on the back so I can adjust the angle after breaking it lastnight trying to force it while on stand. Hopefully it last a little while and dosen't cost me an animal. My wife threw away all my red plastic I had so I am using an old amber cover (I cut to fit) from an old 12 volt spotlight.

I have a optronics 6volt 350yd light that works for me.  but I bought it at cabelas in the bargain cave.  I would like to get a kill light for a shooting light.  but I don't have the extra funds for one this year.  maybe next year.  I know the kill lights really opened my eyes at the expo.  led tech is the future it seems.  no more bulbs to blow and no more corded batt packs.  I am wondering though if I want to get a white one and put a red filter on it and get the extra burn time or just go with the red led one and be done with it?

Get one before the KillLight sticker goes on it then.....

I will admit it has the same body but it is definately not the same light.  A lot of people private label for others.  Maybe this is whats happening here.  Or they are selling just the body?  Not sure.  For the money though it would be worth looking into.

Check out www.dinodirect.com for Uniquefire lights as well.  There prices seem competitive and they have lots of kill light options.  I found this site by googeling "Uniquefire"

Will do.  I am hoping that it will be in the mailbox tonight.  I was surprised it wasn't there yesterday.  also.  for you guys out there with kill lights that don't like the scalloped bezel on the light you can screw it off.  I was thinking about getting some steel and turning a thread on the end and making a sun shade type deflector about a inch and a half long to work as a halo shield but don't think it will be as cost effective as the ones boondock makes.

Ben were you able to get the red LED for that light?  I didn't think they made it?

I didn't.  it is a white led that I will be putting a butler creek flip up scope cover on with red dykem.  I couldn't find the red led's anywhere.  I wanted white to tell you the truth.  Hoping that the 2 modes is close to what the predator light has.  in the end I think it would be cheaper to buy the kill light.  I think I paid 40 bux for a light with two batts and a wall charger.  Then paid another 10 bux for mounts then.  same mounts the kill light uses.  If I wanted to have the tactical switch it would be another 20 bux.  by that time I would have what I would have paid for the kill light.  But I dont want the tactical switch.  It wont be hard to reach up and turn the light on while it is sitting in the tripod.  and I heard the car charger doesnt fit well into a 12volt socket.  I didnt test dads yet.

Like I said in the end If I would have bought everything the kill light has I would be back up to where the kill light is priced.  But I didnt see the point in buying the extras.  I am pretty darn sure the light is the same except for the led color.  Time will tell though.

Seeing this pic from someone who bought the uniquefire is what sold me.

No doubt it will work.  The white LED puts a crap load more lumens out there.  I like the Butler Creek cover idea.  Easy flip of the cover and you have a nice tracking light.

I'm glad that you said you may as well go with the Kill Light after you order all the extras.  Jeff B was going to buy the same set up you did and with all the extras it was only a couple bucks cheaper than the Kill Light with a lot more work and ordering.  The problem is thier shipments are not fast like Jeremiah's.

I just received my uniquefire flashlight.  Batts are charging now and plan on checking it out later at night.  Comparing between the xlr250 there are differences.  They look close but not exactly the same.  The two modes go from off -> high -> low -> off again.  I plan on testing the light out hunting christmas night depending on the weather.
