I always said if I got a black coyote, I'd get a full mount. Well it didn't work out quite like I had planned.
39 lb female. Back half has nice thick fur, but her shoulders and front legs have mange. not sure if she was getting over it or just starting to get it. No bald spots but fur was real thin.

nice even though it is a shame that it had mange. maybe a pedastal mount would work TJ.

congrats on the black, that blows about the fur. if you dont want it go to taxidermy.net or post it in the taxidermy forum on the huntingpa site.

Wow that is one bad azz looking coyote. To bad about the mange. He would have made an awesome mount.

TJ,
Thanx for sharing that is one great lookin yote.....I actually saw a couple of dark phase ones last year but not that dark....

TJ, was it the mange or just 'rubbed'?
Monday, I released a Red Fox that was 'rubbed'. Other Reds and Coyotes are fine up to this point. Greys are still good.
Canines rub at this time of year.
Cant tell for sure from the pictures if'n manage, the the area is were they 'rub'.

It was definately mange. Skin was scaley, especially on the inside of it's front legs. The few traps I have out now are in areas for grays because of the rubs. Caught a nice big male gray this morning that looked great.

TJ says-
It was definately mange.
That's a darn shame. A Black Coyote would have brought good money on taxidermery.com.
I haven't seen any on my lines, but competitors have had a few Reds with slight mange.
It's good you got him. Any other manage on your yippers or Reds?

A few years back I caught a pair of coyotes that had a small amount of it. None since until this one (of course, the black one). I have never seen any reds with it in my area. Hope it doesn't take ahold.
