Buckwheat...nuisance Squirrel
« on: September 18, 2014, 09:17:09 PM »
Got a call late this evening from a Lady. I heard a Squirrel in my attic this afternoon. Come look and get him.

She said her son put mouse traps in attic last weekend when he was visiting.
But she heard a sound like something rolling slowly. Not loud, but heard a sound.
She gave me 4 brand new mouse traps, cleared the way to the attic and off I went. Ranch house, low attic.
I counted 9 mouse traps in that attic and ask why do you want more traps set? She didn't know that many were there. So I didn't set more.
She heard the sound at the far end of the attic, so I crawled though the gauntlet of mouse traps. I reached he end of the attic and found 2 more set traps and no sign of a Squirrel.
Lady was standing on stairway of attic and I told her she had no Squirrels, no sign. She said, Well I heard something.
I turned around and went a short distance and saw a trapped mouse on the edge of the insulation, right off the plywood crawl space. I told the woman I think I found your 'noise'.
The mouse was limp, fresh kill. It's one hind quarter had a small hole eaten in it.
I crawled back to the Lady and showed her what she heard...
By that, The mouse was neck killed instantly by the trap. Another mouse dragged the dead mouse and trap back to the insulation and was eating at the hind quarter.
I dragged the trap slowly across the plywood flooring and asked, Was this the sound you heard? Lady's answered, oh goodness, yes. Thank you. I thought it was a Squirrel.

Buckwheat, I thought you would get a  kick out of this call.
It reminded me of your post when you got a call for one thing and turn out to be another. Which is common.

The follow up...I didn't charge her since I didn't do anything and she was a neighbor of one of my sisters. She did offer me a Beer (and I obliged) and we sat on the back porch. She brought out a Weed Eater and ask me how do I change the string, I think I'm out. Oh geez, here we go...I saw the writing on the wall...
Showed her how-to-do-it, chugged my Beer and got the heck outa there.
Reminded me when Grandma would ask me to do something for her... oh, while you're here...ended up doing a half dozen jobs...lol.

"Predators are either active & feeding, semi-active & callable, or utterly inactive & then practically speaking, no call is needed; we're just taking our guns for a walk. We can & should get used to it, & follow their leed cuz they just ain't eager nor apt to follow our’s any time soon!
