2010 PPHA
Calling Contest Rules
Judges Rules
There will be five judges.
All judges shall be volunteers and must agree to have no financial gain in the outcome of the competition.
In no way may a judge sponsor any competitor in the 2010 PPHA calling competition.
Judges are not permitted to enter the contest.
Each judge will pull his or her own number out of a hat.
No names will be used, all judges will be known by the number they pull out of the hat.
Judges will sit behind a barrier and will be blind to the competitors.
A committee member will hand Judges all necessary scoring sheets for the competition.
Each Judge is responsible to write their number on every score sheet they are handed.
Judges will listen to the caller and write their score down on the score sheet.
Each judge will acknowledge their score entry by raising their hand.
When all five judges acknowledge, committee member will call another caller.
This process will be repeated until the contest is over.
Judges will remain seated in case of questions or discrepancies.
Committee member will dismiss judges after all scores are calculated and finalized.
Contestant Rules
No Entry forms accepted after 10:00 am the day of the competition.
Contestants must be 18 or older to compete in any adult calling contest.
Junior/youth contestants must be 17 or younger and must provide parent signature on entry form.
Contestant may be required to show proof of age to a committee member for qualification.
There will be no practicing from 11:30am to the completion of all calling contests.
Only mouth calls can be used (no electronics).
Sounds to be called will be pulled out of a hat and all contestants will be notified during the pre-contest meeting.
There will be no talking by contestants during the competition.
Each contestant will pull a number out of a hat and is responsible to remember that number for the entire competition.
No names will be used during the contest.
A committee member will call the contestant to the stage by number and give the sound to be called.
Contestant will start calling when ready and acknowledge completion with a head nod to the committee member.
Committee member will then announce the next sound to be called.
This will be repeated until all sounds in that division are completed.
Caller will then exit the stage and another caller will be summoned to the stage.
There are no re-calls for any reason.
There is no time limit to a call.
There will be five scores per call.
The high and low score for each call will be thrown out and the three remaining will be totaled for a final score.
All final scores will then be added for a grand total for the division.
If a contestant enters the all around competition, all division scores will be added for an all around grand total.
Any contestant may protest their score only, but must do so verbally to a committee member before the contest results are announced.
Upon protest, caller may re-calculate their score with a committee member present.
A decision will then be made by the committee member to uphold or deny the protest.
Once announced all scores are final.
If for any reason a contestant does not want or can not accept any prize/award provided by the PPHA for placing in any calling competition, contestant must notify a committee member immediately.
All prizes/awards will then be offered to the next highest score until finalized.
Contestants wanting to know where they placed in any division must ask a committee member after the competition.
In the event of a tie, all the sounds will be placed back into a hat and one will be pulled for a call off.
This will be repeated until a winner is finalized.
