this is our first red and my first hayset catch. My 4 year old son picked the spot, set and lure.

caught another male in the same hayset and today another about 100 ft away, another male. 4th year trapping and first red. Figured with all the yotes non were left. Told the girl I would help her with her coyote study so guess that means only fox this year, lol, but not complaining.

they are real easy to skin.

how many do you think live in the same area? they are all males and tere has to be a female. When should I pull those sets?

It is common to catch a lot of males this time of the year. I believe they are passing through looking for love. If it's a good location, keep trapping it, more will show up. I have areas that are good for 10 or 12 every year if I keep the sets working.

do you have a bunch of reds up there john? I allways thought they stayed to the south.

Not near like the southern part of the state, but we have them. Pre-coyote, I would catch about 4 to 1 grey over red. Within the past probably 7 to 10 years, it has changed to 4 to 1 red over grey. My red count is still close to the same, but the greys have off dropped dramatically.

One thing I've noticed also is the reds moved into the brush here. Don't catch near as many in the open anymore. Not sure if the coyotes actually have anything to do with this stuff, but it seems that way.

Last 2 years I've caught close 1 coyote for every 3 fox. I really would like my grey fox back :cry:

TJ I know what you mean by the red moveing into the brush. I'm catching reds where i should be catching grays or catching both in the same spot / set. Last yr. we only got 1 red this yr. as of right now more red fox. I also have noticed there isn't as much coyote sign around this yr. compared to last yr. but trapping a differebt area this yr.
