Im getting confused on the regulations on beaver trapping. I completely understand about the body gripping traps being sumerged in water.
But: When it comes to foothold traps.. Do I need to have footholds in the water and attached to a cable with a tag or can I just land set them at least the 15 feet from the dam. This is the first time I am getting a chance to trap any around home and figured I would give it a shot ..Just want to do it legal. ???

You can set footholds on land for beaver. only when they are out in the water do you need a tag that is readable from shore, so, if you are checked, the PGC doesnt have to go into the water to look at a tag.
maybe Lifes2fun could verify

i dont recomend dry land trappin beaver. i have heard no good will come from it...so give them a cable to slide down.

I got people telling me I need to call PGC if I catch one, to get it tagged. True or not true.
