Title: Ppha camping/picnic weekend. Buttonwood
Post by: bigben on February 18, 2013, 11:33:05 AM
This years Camping/Picnic weekend will be May 17th, 18th, and 19th.  It will be held at the ButtonWood Campground  https://buttonwoodcamp.com/  This campground is in District 4 in a town called Mexico, PA  It is right off rte 322 by Port Royal.

Depending on the size of your tent, we may be able to fit two tents in one lot.  I would like for anyone planning on attending to make a post below stating that you will be attending, how many people and what day you will be arriving.  Remember you or one member of your group or family must be a PPHA member.  This will help us decide if we need to reserve more spots or not.

We will have a community tent this year same as last and the PPHA will be buying the bulk of the food.  As usual please bring any special dietary foods you may need.  Also if you want to bring anything to share with the group to help defer cost you may but do not have to.

Remember, you are welcome from any part of the state no matter what district you reside in.  We had a blast last year and this year should be even better.  Bring your wife or family also (immediate family only).  Any questions contact bigben or Lookn4fur via pm or email.

Bring all the gear you would normally bring when you camp.  There are showers there for those who wish to smell good    In addition we will be fishing, kayaking, and canoeing so bring any of that gear you may have.  There are rentals there if they are not all taken.  Please log onto buttonwoods site and check out all the activities available.  There is a lot for kids to do also.

Anyone that came last year can remember how much fun this was last year for all that showed up.

I have to work that weekend but I may burn a vacation day just to come and put some faces to online names.  I'm from York and I figure its about and hour and a half drive.  Is there any of the 3 days that is better than the others to plan a day trip?

Also, If there is anyone close to the York area and would like to car pool for a day, let me know.

I got a call from Buttonwood asking if I could confirm the amount of people for the camping weekend.  We reserved a lot of sites and if we can cut some loose we will so that they don't sit empty.

Ernie are you planning on bringing anyone this year?  The lovely Mrs. Buckwheat perhaps?

Mike, are you coming and are you bringing anyone?

MisterJake23, staying over Saturday night or just visiting Saturday?

Anyone else before I commit to a number?

I finalized our trip to Buttonwood today.  We have 10 campsites reserved that accomodate tents and pop-ups.  Each site has electric, water and cable (yes, cable).  Our group rate is six dollars per night per person for those sleeping overnight.  For our daytime visitors it will cost you two dollars per person.  Everyone will have to check in at the office (red barn) and pay thier fees.  Make sure to tell them you are with the PPHA for that rate and to get a vehicle pass.  Please do not check in before 1:00 pm.  It will be first come first serve as far as sites go.  Something new this year, we have a pavillion for our community area where we will keep the food and drinks.  We will also be eating there as a group for our main meals unless you are just snacking  in between.

Remember to bring your chairs and all other gear you need to have fun.  Fishing gear and canoes or kayaks are welcome and are always a big hit.  Even if you don't plan on using them it would be nice to lend them to others.

We have potentially 34 people showing up.  If they all show it will be our biggest to date.  Thanks and can not wait to see you there.  Remember, the PPHA is providing the main meals.

I'll let you guys know if that changes, i'm pretty p'd I'm not making it twice now, but i'll try and maker to the pta rondy in june for those who go there. I most likely will have to take vacation for that as well on thurs and fri, cuz thats my weekend for work too I think. sorry guys......keep mom up around the fire for me, don't let that guy be a party pooper

Last year you paid at the campground office. Tell them who your with and how many nights you'll be staying and they will drive you down to the campsite.

Also if anyone can bring some wood for a community campfire as well as lanterns they are always appreciated. Weather looks good so far.

I will bring some wood Ben.  We had some people bail out on us recently.  We are down to 29 people throughout the weekend if everyone shows.  We have three extra campsites so there is plenty of room to spread out.  Since we had people bail on us if you know of any members that thought it may be too late, it's not.  Just let me know on this post and we will get you in.  Thanks...........Tim

I would like to know if there's anything I could bring for the club? GF heading up tomorrow so we'll be cutting out friday morning. Let me know? It's gonna be interesting with me on 2nd shift sleep schedule.

Not that I know of.  There is a store close by if we forget anything.  Have a safe trip and we will see you there.  Don't forget chairs to sit around the campfire.  Fishing rods if you wanna fish and kayaks, canoe or boat if you are into that.  My family will be making a kayak trip Saturday but anyone is welcome to my kayaks after that.

Just want to say "Thanks You" for such a great time! It's been years since I've done any camping and it was a 1st for Janice. She's already talking about when her and I can do something like that again. Butler had a great time also, he enjoys all the attention.

It was great for me as well being able to but some actual faces to names.  Hopefully next year I'll be able to spend a night or two instead of just a day trip.   It was a great spot next to the creek.......And the train, what an experience!!
