Title: Districts 2 & 4 Camping/Fishing and Relaxing Weekend
Post by: Lookn4Fur on March 30, 2011, 09:43:25 AM
This years district 2 & 4 Camp weekend will be June 24th, 25th and 26th.  It will be held at the ButtonWood Campground  https://buttonwoodcamp.com/  This campground is in District 4 in a town called Mexico, PA  It is right off rte 322 by Port Royal.  I have temporarily reserved 10 sites.  We can put one large tent per site or two small tents per site.  Each site has a fire ring, picnic table, water and electric.  The sites are about 100 yards from the Juniata River.  There is a ton of stuff there for kids and adults alike.  Again we will be fishing, cooking and just relaxing.  There is a pool for those who want to swim.  And there is horse shoe pits.  The best part is the cost.  $6.00 a person per night if camping in a tent.

I have limited space for camping trailers.  The length of your trailer determines the cost.  Over twenty feet is in the low $40's per night.  Up to twenty is mid 30's a night.  If you are planning on attending and you have a camper, contact me so I can get you a definate price and maybe a better deal.

Remember, you do not have to reside in district 2 or 4 to participate in this event.  We had a blast last year and this year should be even better.  Bring your wife or family also (immediate family only).  Last year we had a couple women and I think five kids.  Please post on hear if you are attending by May 1st  Because I have to confirm with the camp ground exactly how many sites we need.  The PPHA will be picking up the food but as usual, if you have something you would like to share, by all means bring it along.  The only thing I ask is that at least one person in the family is a PPHA member.  Any questions contact DJ aka Critterslayer (D2) or Tim aka lookn4fur (D4). Thanks.....Tim

Great, had a good time last year. I hope a bunch shows up again. We should have a big and small fish prize. I will test out my one man tent again. Let me know if you need money for a space.

Sounds good.  I will probably pay for the sites up front and just collect from you when you get there.  I will keep everyone updated.  I really enjoyed last year and am looking forward to this year.

Everything that is in the river.  I asked that question when I went up to look at the site and they said there is definately catfish, carp, small and largemouth, rockbass and on and on.  Looks like better water and cleaner area than the last place but not near as wide.  I will talk to DJ im sure we can come up with something.

I would love to but I don't dare.  I'm scheduled to work and I am already burning vacation to attend the trapping convention.  Plus my ol' lady would kill me as she is due to freshen early July......

Hern snores.

juice is allowed...would we hold this event at a campground if we were not allowed to have juice? no...don't be silly...

I'll do the french fries again...might look into some other stuff
Title: Re: Districts 2 & 4 Camping/Fishing and Relaxing Weekend
Post by: Lookn4Fur on April 20, 2011, 09:02:26 AM
As DJ said we wouldn't have it there if juice wasn't allowed.  But no sippy cups for the camp ground roads only at home if you know what I mean.

Foxtrot and Ben, that would be great.

I may go rattlesnake hunting Saturday morning.  If I do, anyone is welcome to go but you have to have a snake permit to hunt them.  You can get them for $25 on the fish and boat commission website.  Send for them in May if your getting them.

Renny, maybe next time.  How do you know Hern snores?? ::) ::)

Nice to see members doing things like this on here... Look at all the great friendships that have occurred as a result of predator hunting and the PPHA...Even some members that no longer are members of the PPHA are now friends with people all over the U. S. because of predator hunting and in some cases because they belonged to the PPHA...In some instances the membership in the PPHA is priceless for some..Others probably don't even think of the friendship they now have because of predator hunting a being once a member of PPHA..  Keep up the good work all you people the plan this stuff...Also thank you for doing all the planning and the hard work too..

Title: Re: Districts 2 & 4 Camping/Fishing and Relaxing Weekend
Post by: Lookn4Fur on April 26, 2011, 08:35:29 AM
I need to have a final count by may 9th.  There are cabins there but not sure the availabilty.  If you or anyone is utilizing a popup or camper, let me know because the cost is different.  We are getting 10% off.  Popup site rental is $30.60/night.  Campers are more but not sure exactly how much.  I wanna think around $40.00.  The main difference is you have to have a one night deposit ahead of time with your name, address and phone number.  The others can pay when they get there.  Thats why I need to know ahead of time.

The camp ground is being very accomodating to us.  I held ten sites and they are all booked.  I called them the other day and asked if we could hold two more sites just in case and they said they would.  If for some reason they have to fill them we can put more than one tent in a site.  The site are very wide but not real deep. I plan on having one central site for the fire and cook tent.  Of cours everyone can have there own fire if they want.  I will need kindling and firewood if anyone can provide.

Glad you got it fixed Ben.  Sorry for putting my big but in it and making a hole for you.

I will be putting an e-mail out within the next day or two with details for the weekend.  Of course if there are any questions just shoot DJ or I a PM.  Thanks...........Tim

no prob.  I don't know how good the fix is.  but I doubt I will be draggin over rocks too much anymore.  gonna have to get out and ford it over because I think the plastic I welded it with is softer then the original stuff.  all I know is it held for two hours yesterday.

Ok here is the website for the campground we are staying at,  https://buttonwoodcamp.com/  You can get phone number and directions from this site.  My cell number is 717-649-6822.  Call me if you have any problems or questions or get lost.  Check in is 1:00 pm on Friday and check out is 1:00 pm on Sunday.

All the sites are reserved under my name.  When you get there stop at the office (red barn) and tell them you are with the Tim Deckard group of campers.  Bring your own camping, fishing, hiking, swimming gear and anything else you can think of.  The PPHA will be providing the drinks (non alcoholic) and food.  If you need any special foods you will have to provide your own.  You can also provide your own alcohol if you want.  Please remember this is a family event so we need to keep things in check some what.

I am bringing a canoe and two kayaks that anyone can borrow.  If you have your own and can bring them feel free.

The only thing we really need from others is some firewood and a fire grate to cook on.  If anyone can and wants to bring a grill, griddle or cook stove then thats fine.  We have but im sure a few more would be better.  Here is some of the food items that we are bringing so you know if you don't like you can bring something else.

Chicken, Eggs, Cereal, Hash Browns, Bacon, Breakfast Sausage
Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Sausages (Hot and Mild)
French Fries, Coffee, Bake Potatoes, Smore's, Watermellon
Chicken Wings, Clams, Milk, various drinks (soda, water and tea)
Wild Turkey Breast, Chips and Pretzels

I think we have around 22 people camping the whole weekend and anywhere fro 5 to 10 people coming to visit on Saturday.  The main goal is to have as much fun as possible and stay safe.  See you all at the campground.........Tim

In Ben's defense, he baled off the bike because he didn't know where the breaks were and he was coming up on the pack of other racers too fast.( so he says)
I wont soon forgets those images either.
It was great to see everyone again, and meet some great new members

whatever floats your boat tim.  I still had fun and to be honest this past weekend prob ranks number 1 on my best weekends ever with friends and that includes all the hunts all the rondys and other get togethers we had.  I had a blast and it shows what the ppha is about.  thanks again for those involved including those that showed up and participated.

You got that right!!  Word is getting out slowly but surely how much fun we have at these events.  I finally got a count and we had 27 people at this event.  That is actually double from last year.  The first two were in district 4 so we will try to have it next year in district two.  Im hoping we can add another ten or so people by then.  Its gonna be tough to beat Buttonwood Campground though.

yep.  buttonwood campground was prob one of the nicest campgrounds I have ever been to if not the best campground I have been to.  there is plenty to do there for anyone of any age.  I'll def be at next years no matter where it is.   8)

Hokey Smokes what a great weekend.
Thanks to Tim and DJ for setting up this event.
I took one of our grandsons along and he had a blast. Thanks Ernie for taking Jordon fishing in your canoe. Thanks Tom P. for rigging Jordon's rod for tube bait and showing him some knots. BigBen, thanks for clean'n Jordon's catfish.
Tim, Ernie and Nathan caught 2, x-large rattlers and brought them back to camp. My hat is off to these guys for a successful hunt and handling mean hombre snakes.
I think the hillbilly award went to Ben when he fillet catfish on the hood of his Bronco. That's some real hillbilly chit there.
Some things to eat at camp this weekend....Bacon, Eggs, hashbrowns, Ben's Smoked Chicken, Clams, Burgers, Itaian Sausage, Venison sticks, Venison Summer Sausage, Fresh Cut French Fries, Homemade Ice Cream and am sure I missed a few goodies.
It was good to see you yahoo's again and a pleasure to meet you new folks. Let's do it again!

There may have been a tie with you Hern, the guy who was skinning headless rattlers as they were striking at him.
