Districts 2 & 4 are joining together primarily for a picnic on July 30, 31 and August 1 at the Marrysville Campground. We will be camping all weekend as well as fishing, canoeing and outdoor games. This is a family event so all are welcome. You can stay for one or two nights or just show up for the picnic at 12:00 pm Saturday. You don't have to have a family membership. Bring all your own equipment. We will be supplying the food for the Picnic on Saturday. We need to have a count on the amount of campsites we will be needing. I will pay for the site ahead of time (around $15/night) and you can pay me when you get there. Depending on how many sites we need we may even pay for that but don't assume anything ahead of time. Please RSVP to Tim (District4) d3gamecalls@comcast.net or DJ (District 2) beckeyd@mounties.mansfield.edu no later than Friday, July 9th on how many tent sites and people you will be bringing. Should be a great time and I look forward to it.

I will be in for this. does this campground have electric at its sites?
-
Is there any lodges there. I have no camping equipment?
Ernie

Where is this campground at?
-
I may be down for this also
Buckwheat, I could lend you a tent,
I know you've slept in your car

Ernie
If I make it. I got a 8 man tent.
-
I'm going to let DJ answer these questions because he is the one communicating with the campground.
-
leglifter
I slept so much in my car predator hunting that it is almost home . lol
Thanks for the tent offer, I might have to take you up on it but my car is still an option
It looks like swarter2 might be bringing an an 8 man tent.
I now have three options for sleeping, but a good bed and a shower are high on my list. But a hotel will keep me from hanging out all night at the campgrounds and lying too everybody about my fishing and hunting skills. All tough decisions!!

Good News Buckwheat. I don't know where DJ is to answer some of your questions but I'll try to get a hold of him again.
-
I am pretty sure he was busy all weekend and was away from home. I am sure he will chime in then.

Bob--The campground is located near marysville,PA and it is where the Juniata River dumps into the main branch of the Susky. I used to wade this section of the river in my younger days before I got a boat, i've been through there with a canoe and I think I could only get my jet boat upstream from camp...if that. But there is great smallie fishing here with an occassional wallye. Where those fish are located, usually have a few deep holes where we could find some nice cats too.
-
They do allow hook ups for campers if someone wanted to bring one of those along, I think their rates are 20 a night with water and elect but check the page. I dont' think they have any cabins or cottages, but I can check in to that for you Ernie, if the wall tent is not what you're looking for.
-
I am game for camping both friday and saturday night. I would get the full hook up for both nights for me if someone is gonna be putting in reservations.
-
Wall tents a little pricey.
-
They might be extremely nice as if you're not even in at tent, i'm not sure tho, as this would be the first time I've ever stayed at the place. This year is kind of a "rough draft"

OK they had this in the bargain cave today and I purchased it for $69, I also purchased a self inflating matt. I hope I can get some use out of it this winter hunting. I also needed something to sleep in that will keep the bugs out. I set it up in the living room and it sure was comfortable to lie in. It might be better then sleeping in my car this fall when I am on my wild ass hunting adventures. I hope just not another thing for me to store in my garage?

I always wondered if they were comfortable...
-
I remember a few years ago, at the NTA, one of our members saying how much he disliked his.
Stay medicated, and you'll sleep like a baby
-
Just got a group tenting area next to a camper lot for 20 a night for camper that BigBen is bringing...and 5 dollars a head/night for all the tent campers at Riverfront campground...So as of right now we're offically reserved, and he said we can show up anytime after noon, instead of 5pm as the website says. Still 91% Bob? Think we might be doin some carp shootin and maybe some turtle trappin this weekend too if things come together
-
Leglifter The guy must have not put a self inflating mat in it.
I was in it last night checking it out and could have slept all night.
-
Don't know if he had a mat or not.
How medicated were you lastnight?
DJ......93%

Are you guys fishing in boats or from the bank? I just might drop buy and talk with some of you Friday night or Saturday night. if your bank fishing I might even join you a bit...
I have to be somewhere on Saturday at noon so I can't make the get together..
-
I plan on bank fishing and also wading during the day. I do not think there is any schedule though. but count on me being somewhere both friday and saturday night fishin for channels.
-
we'll be fishing from shore at night i'm sure of that UB...stop by
-
OK planning to fish from shore at night. Is there anything we should bring. Camp fire wood, bug spray, gaff for fish over 50 lb.s, rain gear,
fire works, turtle hooks, road flares, lighted fishing bobbers,
-
Do we have a total number of participants yet?
-
Bob, including yourself and Tony which are up in the air, it would be a total of 11, including kids that I know for sure that will be coming along. I believe UB might be stopping by during the day, and I forget what exactly Tim had said, but I think Shawn and his two boys might be stoping by for the picnic sat at noon as well. So ballpark i'm looking at 15 people. I'm sure other family members, girlfriends, ect might come along that I do not know about yet so.
Ernie,
What would you use the road flares for? You are more than welcome to bring campfire wood, I know I plan on bringing some from home as well as Tim I believe. I would def bring bug spray, I do not believe you will need a gaf, rain gear is always packed, fire works are def encouraged (I may or may not have some prankster fireworks for the crowd), turtle hooks if you want to set out some lines(Tim and Tony are into that sort of thing, I want to learn more about it), You won't need a lighted fising bobber only because you'll be fishing in some current, and unless you want to re-cast every few mins, I don't think you need'm. I'll rig you up with the rig I use and taught Big Ben to use, its pretty simple and works. Its a sit on the bottom, suspending the bait just above the basin, and when a fish takes your bait, you'll know it without the use of bobbers. Bring along a headlamp, and some wrags to whipe your hands off...thats something I always tell people to bring along fishing. If you or your brother have any delicious campfire eats your more than welcome to bring some of that as well.
-
Bob, Sorry if I've already mentioned that the area is great for a canoe in one of our officer meetings, but if I haven't, I noticed I didn't respond to your question a few pages back. So just in case it had slipped my mind, yes bringing a canoe might be worth while. But, all the fishing can be done by wading if you wished to do so.
-
Thanks DJ
I am, as of now, officially "in"
As long as some unforeseen deterrents don't arise.
I can't seem to figure out what kind of shared food to bring, so I may just bring
a few dozen ears of corn for the group, and some wine.
I will bring the canoe and some stuff to make that fillet'o'garlic-butter dill cream sauce for any fish we would
catch and do up.
I will try to leave early friday morning to get there around noon.
I may be bringing some baggage ( you in george?)
Can't wait!
I think this is going to be a blast!
-
I am in gonna be by myself. I have two quart baggies full of catfish from earlier excursions. me and my cuz are heading down friday night this week to get some more bigguns for eatin(in case we get skunked friday and saturday night that weekend). ill bring the fillet knife and board to clean whatever is caught.
lookn forward to it.
-
I don't have any campfire wood. Bring it if you have it. Heck, I may even take my chair and sit in the water while I fish. That way if I fall off I won't have far to go. ;D
-
I can throw some wood in the back of the pickup. I got a bunch by the house that needs burned up since my cuz never came and picked it up.
-
You GOTSTA bring your hip boots and waders for all of the fish stories being told while you are all fishing together..
Joking put aside...Probably a few Thermocell activated around the group would do everyone well...
-
yeah i got a thermocell, i'll bring it along...yes, I too can't wait, its going to be a lot of fun. Bob, i'm interested in this fish cooking recipe you've got, and of course the wine...I've probably only ever had like two different kinds of big name wines, all the stuff I've had drank on regular occassions is home made wine, its always fun to see what everyone else makes
-
bob makes some good wine and that recipe is pretty dern good on trout. cant wait till I try it on something else.
-
all this week I spent most of my afternoons catching chubs and blugills for bait for this fridays catfishing expedition. this morning while checking the minnow trap I seen a mink working the edge of the stream. I was surprised though he didnt care that I was there till I dropped the trap back in the water. he looked up at the led headlamp and then dove under water and swam right up along the side of the bridge embankment. I know where some 110 conis are going come december. ;D
-
yeah buddy!
-
Does anyone have a metal grate we can throw over the fire to cook stuff on? I don't know if there is one at the campsite?
-
I have one, how big around is the fire pit?
-
mission accomplished. we got fish to eat for next weekend. 8)
-
Holy cat Ben!
Nice work, is anyone bringing a fryer and oil?
I have a zucchini puff recipe thats pretty good
Also a crap load of zucchini in the garden.
This event should've been a week long to fit all the good times and good food in
-
Don't know Bob. Can you bring it anyway?
Your right it is going to fly by quick. I don't have a fryer.
-
I don't have a fryer but I got a wok if that will work. Can put it over the fire.
-
does anyone wanna go to bass pro shops sometime during the weekend? I need to run down and get a few things.
-
I will probably need to buy some fishing stuff for the boys Ben. I'll go with you and you can help me out.
-
I've got the fryer and probably the cooking grate too
-
no prob. I figured heading there after lunch sat to grab what I need.
I will grab a few doz jalapenoes and some bannana peppers to fry also if you fellas want too. is anyone bringing a canopy? I do not have one at all. might be something to have if the weather gets ruff. but so far the weekend weather looks awesome.
-
I am bringing an easy up and I think DJ is bringing something.
-
boy the weather is looking nice for this weekend.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 83. North wind between 3 and 6 mph.
Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 59.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 62.
Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
so final roll call and what time is everyone gonna be there?
I plan on getting at the campground around noonish friday, setup camp and do some fishing.
-
I will be there sat morning. So if you get there and need something I can stop on the way up. I will be comming up 441
-
I think I got my bank rod holder setup perfect now. took a few tries but it seems to work pretty good. originally I would stack rocks in the basket to kinda anchor it because the fish started draggin everything in when it was empty. but in places I can I use one stake in the back to keep it anchored good.
-
Friday noonish
-
Saturday Noonish -1.
Hey my youngest daughter would like to come. Is that Ok?
-
Yes that is absolutely OK. I will be there Friday between 3 and 6.
-
I stopped in at the camp grounds and looked around a little on the way up to my cabin Saturday and the water was real low but looked ok for canoeing. Is anyone else bringing a boat or a canoe, or are you all fishing from shore?
-
I believe bob is bringing a canoe...
I will be there Friday at noon...that is when they told me we could check in so hopefully i'll be the first one there...
Swarter...absolutely you can bring you daughter along, this is a family event, should be fun for all ages!
-
I think I am gonna bring my canoe also.
-
There will be at least four canoes there. Anybody can use mine if they want.
-
I'll be there Saturday morning or afternoon.
You have enough canoes so I'll leave mine at home.
If you guys need anything give me a call on my cell. I'll bring it along.
Don't forget your camp chair.
-
4 catfish so far all over 24 in.
-
Tonights fishing is a bit slower. Two landed so far one was big and one is med to big. So far a decent turnout and everyone is having fun.
-
Ben
Post the picture of the catfish you caught. That thing is one big catfish.
-
Ernie, I posted some pictures on a new topic on this page.
