If a contestant under the age of 18 wins the youth contest, do they also take part in going to the world comp?

Can someone please make this stick?

Folks in yet another attempt to increase awareness of the caliing competition, I am organizing all the information in one post.  I hope this helps to answer any and all questions about the event.  As always please PM me if you need further clarification.  Unfortunately the masses of predator hunters will not see this post so please help to spread the word.

http://www.spiritedghosthunting.com/PPHA/2009_Contest_Entry_Form.pdf

For the Adult divisions the following sounds will be put into a hat and drawn from:

3 of the following 5 will be pulled and the caller will do each pulled plus an additional distress call of their choice. (choice must be different than 3 called)

Distress:
Coon distress
Bird distress
cottontail distress
jackrabbit distress
Fawn distress

2 of the following 4 will be pulled and the caller will do each plus an additional coyote vocalization of their choice (choice must be different than the 2 called)

Coyote Vocalization:
Adult bark
Adult Lone Howl
Adult  Ki-Yi
Challenge Howl

For the Youth division.....no sounds will be pulled, but the following is what will be done.

For the Distress:

Cottontail Distress

For the Coyote Vocalization:

Adult Lone Howl

There will be a meeting at roughly 11:30 to draw sounds, review the rules and answer questions any callers or judges may have.  At that point there will be no practicing allowed before the competition.  The Adult Distress division starts around 12:00 pm.  To break it up a little the the Youth calling contest will follow and then the Adult Coyote Division will be last.  All scores will be tallied and announced after the end of the Adult Coyote Division.  Only the top three in each division will be announced and the awards will be handed out.

There will be five judges that will be hidden behind some type of barrier.  The callers will be visible to the crowd.  We feel this will be more entertaining and a better learning experience for all.

During the meeting, the callers will draw numbers which the judges will never know.  The judges will also be identified by numbers so you will not know who gave you what score.  A calling committee member will call a number at random and that caller will step onto the stage.  There will be no names used, just numbers.  The committee member will then announce the sound to be called and will then inform the caller to start when ready.  When the caller is done they will acknowlege the completion of thier call and will walk off the stage.  There will be no re-calls in case of call malfunction.  The judges will score the call on a scoresheet provided by the calling committee with the callers number on the form.  The judges will then notify the calling committee member that they are ready for the next caller.  This will be completed until all contestants and sounds are called one time.  Nobody will call twice to tune the judges ears, all calls will be judged and the highest and lowest score for each sound will be thrown out.  This means that there will be three scores tallied for each call.

The calls will be scored as such.  Excellent 16-13, Very Good 12-9,    Good 8-5, Fair 4-1.

Oh by the way, anyone can enter.  This is a PPHA calling competition you don't have to live in PA.  There are very few predator calling competitions out there and the PPHA is leading the way with these events.

I hope this helps to make your mind up about entering.  It really is a fun time, so why not give it a try.................Tim

YeeeHaaaaa!! It looks like this calling event is shaping up nicely. I have talked to 4 people from 4 other states and some that are faraway that are already looking to come here. Sounds like more are now watching so who knows?

Duffman don’t get too excited yet!!! Only two are for sure today.

I am in. Many coyotes, fox and bobcats have bit the dust with my tunes over the years. There is a huge difference between peoples ears and a predator ears. What's a better judge than alot of dead predator. We need more callers to make it interesting. Come on guys step up to the plate. Everyone wins for eff

Isn't this a PA only contest?

Apparently no. I wonder why non-members can enter. Aren't we suppost to be building membership? Heck enter a PPHA event and no support to the club seems negative. Make everyone who enters into the contest sign up as a member. Our members spent alot of time and effort on this event. The least they can do is spend $20.00 for membership which is cheap.

Why not nonmembers?
shouldn't have to be a member to enter the state calling contest
it would be nice though

That's why they call it a STATE CONTEST. NOT Tri-state or National Event Etc. Besides that, all our PA. members do the work and some out of stater comes to our events without being a member. I personally don't care, but i think it's negative for PPHA members.

I think the out of staters everyone is talking about are the vendors not contestants

I copied this off the calling information sheet.

Should make for a bigger event, that is for sure.

Sorry for just replying to this thread but I just got home from a weekend vacation.  I understand everyones concerns about out of state competitors but this is an easy answer for me.  We want to grow this event as big and as fast as we can.  Last year was a great success for the first expo, however there were to many limitations to grow this event. The unknown got the better of us.

I have three people signed up.  I know three more that are signing up for sure and there are 4-5 others that are saying they are thinking about it.  If they all fill out applications, we are ahead of last year.  Remember, there were only something like 26 people for the worlds last year.

Contestants are paying $25.00 for the all around and $10.00 to get in the door.  That's already more than a one year membership.  In addition to that some of the guys are venders as well so add another $15.00.   A positive attitude and great event will grow membership.  So I say bring'em on, they are going to be hard pressed to beat us anyway. ;D

Good math, maybe we can also recommend they become a member when they see the good PPHA has done for the sport.

The title of the thread is "State calling contest" and the flier calls it the "PA state predator calling championship".  When did this get changed?  Who changed it?  Why did it get changed?  So much change, Obama must have his fingers in it!
I don't really care what we call it, or what it actually is, but if it is open to the entire country, why aren't we marketing it country-wide?  The PPHA will look like a dunce with 2 in-state contestants, and 2 out-of state contestants.  Buckwheat, who said "The PPHA is leading the way with these events"?  Looks llike a few steps backwards to me.

I try to find the positive also.  Sometimes, it seems, you have to make it up.  Thank goodness I dream in color!

Earl it is possible for anyone to enter the worlds with out a sponsor or winning the PPHA event..  FOXPRO has been very generous to offer this prize to the PPHA to show their support and I personally thank them for it.  You may use whatever hand or mouth calls you wish as long as they are not electronic and all the rules are followed for the event you are entered into.

BP, I said the PPHA is leading the way with these events.  That's my opinion from what I see especially in PA.  There are many, many turkey and duck calling contest but very few predator.

Mistakes were made by me and others but this train continues to roll and grow, which is what the PPHA wants.  Executive, district and committee members continue to make decisions they must make for this event to be successful.

All suggestions will be considered for anything I have to make a decision on as long as they are submitted within a timely fashion.  It is to late for suggestions or changes to the calling competition at this point but will be considered for next year if I am on the committee.

Thanks for all your concerns, now lets hold the best possible event we can this year and thank you for your continued positive support.
