Anybody doing an reloading?
« on: March 07, 2011, 11:58:52 AM »
Got 1,000 .38 special cases in the process now (bought them at an auction on Gun Broker), about 100 .44 magnum, 200 .243, and then getting set up to reload for .223's.  I love reloading in the "off season".... pre trout groundhog season...

I reloaded about 120 rounds of 223's with 50 grain Silvertip bullets (8 each for each powder) One or two powders that  I like I used different grainage too from the minimum to the maximum and in between..Really Like the IMR 8208 XBR for many of the calibers I load. .. I  used all the powders I have that can be used in the 223's.  Hoping the reloads will shoot well in a Savage 24V and the Savage Edge I have..Soon as I get the 24V shooting well I will start to use that for coyotes. Hoping the shotgun blast there after doesn't knock off the accuracy of the rifle like some what happens to the Spartans...

Mastercast is only a few miles from me,hardest cheapest projectile I've found. Also have jacketed bullets

Seeking,
You don't need all those 38sp, would you want to do some brass trading.
What would you be interested in?

Sure...I would be happy to trade some brass.   I could use .223, .17 Fireball, .44 Mag, .357 Mag, and 30.06.

I did use it for one of the test powders.  This will be the first time I used it for the 223.

I did start to reload some of the Midway USA Dogtown .172  20 grain HP last night for my Fireball... 10 each...I used 18.5 grains of H335 powder..that's what shot well with the 20 grain Vmax in my 17 Fireball.  However the dogtown bullets are .10 shorter then the Hornady HP and the Vmax.

I have loaded up some 52 gr a max with 24.5 gr. H4895 May not load it to go any faster. Around 3000 fps. I also may load up some Remington 55 gr. pointed soft points not real fast, they were both were fairly fur friendly most of the time. The pointed soft point seamed to do a little better on fur.
I also loaded up 100 rounds of Hornady 25 gr. H.P. at around 4100 Fps with Varget, shoots real nice real far, but can be explosive on fox. But I do not hunt them for the fur money so I can not complain. I would not shoot a bobcat with this load, I like to keep the cat fur for my self.
I also loaded up 50 243 shells with 87 gr. B.T.H. Hornady bullets. This is my favorite bullet for long shot ground hogs.
For a brief moment I could hear nature through all the noise.

Yep Buckwheat....The 243 would also be good if it was a bit windy and you wanted to hunt groundhogs real bad..  I did find some 55 grain ...243 Combined technology Silvertip bullets.
Wow everyone should reload... Sometimes it's just a good place to escape too..Your reloading area... I remember when I was recovering from my hernia operation.. Wow did I load the buckshot then... # 4 buck, T shot,  BB, and B.. Kind took care of the cabin fever while I healed...
